The Twins announced a set of roster moves, recalling LHP Kody Funderburk from Triple-A St. Paul and reinstating RHP Cody Laweryson from the 15-day injured list.

In corresponding moves, LHP Kendry Rojas was placed on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation, and Travis Adams was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul.

Funderburk has had mixed results this year, pitching in five games with St. Paul and throwing five innings, where he gave up five runs while recording seven strikeouts. Earlier in the year at the major league level, Funderburk threw 16 innings for the Twins, where he struck out 10 hitters, earned a save, and had a much better 2.81 ERA, but his underlying metrics weren't as stellar (5.44 FIP).

Laweryson has thrown 6 1/3 innings prior to the injury, striking out eight hitters, with a 2.43 FIP and a 0.789 WHIP. It's a small sample size, but he could be someone who serves as a solid option out of a bullpen, looking for solutions in various areas.

Rojas was scratched from his most recent start and is having an MRI, which will reveal how serious the elbow injury is.

Adams has had mixed results this year, mostly as a multi-inning reliever, throwing 10 innings for the Twins, striking out 12, but has given up eight runs, and a 4.77 FIP in that small sample size. He will likely return to the majors when a fresh arm is needed in the future.

Small sample sizes, but both Laweryson and Funderburk have been pitching very poorly at AAA the past couple weeks...

Not great to see Rojas go down like this. Another reason why trading Varland for what I've been told is just for Rojas (and Roden was supposedly just a throw-in) was not a good idea, it's never good to put all your eggs in one basket, especially when that basket is a pitching prospect.

Has Able made any progress towards recovery?

A club official confirmed that following a bullpen session on Saturday, Abel experienced soreness in the joint. He received a cortisone shot in his right triceps and will be re-evaluated when the team returns home on Tuesday from its current road trip. The discomfort is in a different location from what initially sidelined him.

Hopefully it's nothing to be concerned about in regard to both Abel and Rojas. Maybe they can both be back sometime in June? Really really love what these two young arms have been showing. Crossing my fingers.

The recalls make sense. I keep saying this, but I haven't given up on Funderburk yet. He looked really good late in '25, and while his control wasn't the best to begin this season, he seemed to get the job done most of the time. But then he just wasn't the same after his leave. Hopefully he gets in a good groove. I think his stuff plays

Not worried that Lawyerson's rehab appearance didn't look good. A lot of the times it's just about getting put there on the mound, throw your pitches, try something you maybe wouldn't normally do, but just get the work in and throw everything in your arsenal.

Lawyerson is kind of interesting in that he doesn't throw especially hard, and doesn't seem to have a singular pitch that's dominant, he just "pitches" and gets guys out.

Twins pitching depth is eroding. Only guys left on the 40-man are Raya and Klein.

38 players on the 40. All season long the 40 has been too heavy on the hitting side. 18 pitchers, 20 hitters

time to rebalance.

should be 21 or 22 pitchers on the 40

??  Right now they have 19 by my count.  Until they removed SWR, Garcia, and Topa I think they had 22.  They've lacked talent all season but not numbers.

The numbers do not count guys on the 60-day IL, but do include the ones on the 15-day.  That could be the source of the disconnect.

Paredes had his contract selected today. Timing

They clearly weren't going to run with 19 pitchers.  As you say, the norm has become 21 or 22, so it won't be a surprise if they add 1 or 2 more.  But it's that size to accommodate the 15-day IL guys that they don't want to 60-day to clear room.  Position players get injured too, but you can play a substitute every day for a while if you have to - not so with the bullpen.
