Twins to promote Michael Tonkin

I like it when relievers find roles that work for their skill set and have value, so let's leave Swarzak right there until he prices or plays his way out of it.

 

Looking forward to seeing this kid, hopefully the Twins can find a buyer for one of their other arms and he stays.

Don't know that answer, but KSTP is reporting the funeral is Friday, with Thielbar on Thu-Sat. bereavement leave.

 

I asked because his last outing he just seemed off, like he wasn't really focused, not completing his motions. So I wondered if maybe his head was, understandably and uncontrollably, somewhere else.

His Grandma Johnston (his mom's mother) passed away on July 4th, 2013 in the early morning. I am sure he was notified by his mother soon after. His grandma was so proud of him and listened to every Twins game to wait and hear her grandson come in to pitch. I am sure she is watching now from above!!!

After a few years pitching well someone might offer him an expanded role and the salary that comes with. However, the point was let him stay where he is successful.

That may work out. Diamond is scheduled to pitch on Friday in the Bronx and if he's hit hard again, he could be sent out when Thielbar returns. With the All-Star break after that, the Twins wouldn't need a starter until the following Monday at the worst.

Roenicke has pitched well in the same way that Burnett pitched well last season. And Burnett didn't last long this season despite of that. I wouldn't be shocked if he wasn't around in August.

I would vote send Diamond down and let him get a couple of starts between now and the next need of the Twins for a starter (they could always bring up Hernandez for another day start after the All-Star break.). Unless Diamond can figure things out, he may be the next Duensing,,,,,,,,,

I am not convinced that either Duensing or Roenicke would be picked up. If so, the Twins have other replacement level pitchers. They won't need 13 relievers when the staff is rested after the break. Why not send them both put and bring up Colabello and keep Tonkin?

 

When another reliever is needed, let Hernandez work in place of Duensing and release Carroll.
