Maybe the team will finish with more than 70 wins.

70 wins is just 15-32 the rest of the season.

Its August and Ryan is looking tired and his velocity is down. I didn't see a single fastball at 95.

Heat index was close to 100.

Wallner with a 121 wrc+ again....up to 1.1 fwar in 73 games. And there are a huge number of people here that just want to DFA him.....

He has definitely picked up his hitting the past 2 weeks or so, however, when the season mattered he was a big part of the teams woes. He is still hitting a weak .218  with only 27 rbi's along with nearly a 33% strikeout rate. Throw in below average defense and I don't see him as a viable corner outfielder. Would really like to see him get some time at first base, otherwise he is best suited as a DH. Keaschall has 10 rbi's in 1/7 of games played. Would love to see Wallner finish strong at the plate and be a part of the future.

More fun to watch than the previous rendition of the club. Open tryouts are going well. Nice win!

It's amazing how removing all expectations can improve the enjoyment of watching this team play

I find it now much easier to focus on the good, whereas watching them fade from contention made it easier to focus on the bad

Ryan has also been injured the last few seasons. He’s at 132 IP so far after completing 135 in 24. The most for him was 161 in 23. He’s on pace to pitch in more games and innings than he ever has before. It’d be great to see him finish the season healthy.

Much like Joey Gallo, OPS is his friend. It will be the stat that makes Wallner look the best. Wallner was tremendously disappointing until the last couple of weeks, but if he's hitting a homer every three games and drawing some walks the OPS won't look too bad.

I really don't see the comp.  Gallo with the Twins OPS+ was a measly 100. Gallo career, OPS+ of 106.  Wallner is far surpassing those numbers so far.  Gallo surpassed Wallner's current career OPS+ in only one season.

Gallo struck out and walked at a significantly higher rate.... he was simply a far more patient/passive hitter.  It worked for a time, but by age 28 the league apparently figured Gallo out and he never was able to adjust his passive approach.  In his time with the Twins in seemed like Gallo took more strikes down the middle than any hitter I can think of.  That really isn't Wallner's approach.

Of course, Gallo was also good on defense... Wallner we can only hope will get better, with the obvious caveat that he will never be the defender that Gallo was.

My point was that, like Gallo, Wallner's OPS+ overstates his value and contribution to the club. Gallo was a lousy player for the Twins and couldn't even make their playoff roster, but he had a 100 OPS+. On balance, Wallner's season has been underwhelming, but his 121 OPS+ to date would be one of the best on the club.
