Checking Tankathon every Monday the rest of the season. Here's hoping the Twins can "catch" the Braves, if not the Athletics!

3rd best odds is the highest they can logistically go, unless the White Sox sweep us. We should have pretty good idea by mid September.  The 7 games against the White Sox will be big.   We end with quite a few solid teams.

Just to show how tight the teams are for draft percentages for the lottery.

Cardinals  61 wins (ineligible for lottery)

Rays          61 wins

Giants       60 wins

Angels      60 wins  (ineligible for lottery)

Diamondbacks  60 wins

Marlins      59 wins

Twins        58 wins

orioles      57 wins

Braves      56 wins

A's             56 wins

You then have the Rockies and Washing who should be picking 10, 11. The White Sox and Pirates have the 2 highest draft probabilities pretty much locked up.   There is massive variability in draft slot based on just a few wins for a draft that is considered one of the best drafts in the last decade.  You can range from 3 all the way to 14 based on a few wins.

Atlanta really crapped the bed too. Kinda shocking

Twins lost to the A’s. Some questionable calls, an error and timely hits made this one of Ryan’s toughest outings. 2 ER.  Lee hit another home run and solid defense. Wallner with a timely rbi hit and a Jeffers home run. A’s, Braves, and Baltimore all with wins. Twins at 5th best odds.

Lee was the best player on the field, so Rocco took him out. Twins lose.

Pit, Ari, Atlanta, A’s, Miami all won.  Currently 5th best odds, on the verge of the 3rd best odds.

7-12.   I am posting early.

Urena helped the A's sweep us.   A's now above the Twins in the win column.  Braves need a win to pass the Twins as they are currently tied with the 3rd highest odds 15.34% of the first pick.  Logistically the 2 spot is the highest the Twins could get.  As of now the Twins have 4 more wins than the Pirates.   The second spot has odds of 20.32%.   Maybe it gets a little crazy if the White Sox sweep us in 7 games,  I just don't see that happening.

With the same ownership and front office the Twins realistically could switch places with the White Sox next season.

We are in a better situation than the white Sox. The question is, do they rebuild in the offseason or is it a full tear down.

Washington is the other team to watch.  If the Twins get to the 3rd spot it will be the highest chance in the lottery.

yeas Twins lost today. 2 rough innings for Bradley before he settled in.

This past weekend wouldn't suggest so.  But I guess the big thing is if the White Sox have a run next season and put themselves into playoff position, would their ownership pay the money to get them into the playoffs?  Because we know the Twins ownership wont

We went 1-2 against Toronto with a heartbreaking loss yesterday.   The kids are playing hard,  we are just running out of pitching.

We are getting very close to the 2nd best odds for the draft at 20%.  I still think we go on a run at some point - the offense is definitely improving (even with spurts and starts and stops).  Lee continues to grind higher with more power.  Keaschall looking solid.

Went 2-1 against the Padres,  and lost a winnable game against the White Sox.

1 win separates 4 teams from getting the 2nd-5th best odds in the draft.

Twins, Atlanta and Baltimore at 62 wins,  Pittsburg at 61.       The other 3 teams have played 1 more game than the Twins so far.  There are only 2 other teams now that could swap with the Twins now,  A's and Marlins (Angels ineligible for lottery pick).  Currently lotter odds of slots 2-7 is where the Twins could potential land at the end of the season.  Twins have 25 games remaining.

Baseball is a funny game. Since the deadline... They started with three very competitive games against Cleveland, They won a series against the Playoff Bound Tigers, They won a series against the playoff contending Royals, they won a series from the playoff bound Padres, They were a decent bullpen away from winning a series against the playoff bound Jays and they were absolutely destroyed by the lowly A's and White Sox. As much as we like to look at records and say we should beat these teams and lose to the teams... baseball is a funny game and it just doesn't work that way.  There are 23 games left against a variety of opponents we will all see how it finishes.

The month of August wasn't a great month record wise and that isn't surprising because the bullpen is in tatters. For the rest of the year... I believe the bullpen is going to be a problem but in the end it doesn't matter what happens the rest of this year. The goal for the bullpen is to find one or two arms who might be able to contribute in future bullpens. I'm just going to ignore it and whatever happens happens.

With this bullpen... The Twins were 11-17 in August for .393 winning percentage. Not good, not surprising but not the worst month of baseball this year. The worst month was June with a .333 winning percentage or a .667 losing percentage and that team had a bullpen full of talented players that other teams WANTED and gave up players to acquire.

The team has an OPS of .708 for the year... The august team OPS was .695 for the month. Not much different on that end just some different names to watch at the bottom of the order. On the other side of the coin. The ERA for the year is 4.51 and the August ERA was 5.09 and that's pretty significant.

I'll keep watching... I'll stay loyal.

Good point & yet when Rocco is discussed he now has a built in excuse of we traded away all the talent. Even though we were playing uninspired baseball prior to the deadline.

Just making up numbers to make up a point. No need to take the numbers seriously.

Pre-Deadline: The Twins were about a 40 on a scale of 1 to 100.

Post-Deadline: The Twins are about a 38 on a scale of 1 to 100.

One month later, they “overtook” all seven on the list, plus a team with so few wins they weren’t even listed back in August.

At least one thing they attempted succeeded this year.

In 1 month they only overtook 3 teams.

In either case currently the 2nd best odds in the draft.  With 4 games to go for both the Twins and Pirates.  If the standings remain as the current status,  they will have a 22% chance at the #1 pick in the draft and a 60% chance at a top 3 pick.   They are virtually assured of a top 5 pick.

With that the season and the post trade deadline tank are finished.   We ended with the 2nd highest odds in the draft at 22% of the first pick,  60% of top 3 and virtually assured of a top 5 pick.

In a few hours we will find out the draft pick that the Twins get.  However you want to call it,  whether tanking the rest of the season,  or just playing poor baseball and "earning" the 2nd highest odds in the draft - they should end up with a good draft pick.  They had the 4th worst record so in reality if they can the 4th or better pick they will have maintained their slot if this was a normal draft.

Lets see what the culmination of all the trades results in for Draft picks and potentially the max salary allotment for draft picks for 2026.
