I mean, trade France and Sands for a good prospect, sure.

Will a trade like that really make an impact, near term or long term? Is it really that good of an idea to trade away Joe Ryan? Really, though?

I'm honestly not sure why this was even an argument after what we saw in June.

This team doesn't have enough talent in their starting 9.

Missing the playoffs pretty much every year should be an indication of that.... They have two or three guys that I trust. That's not enough.

You're a bit late to the party, my friend, but welcome. There's beer in the fridge and I think there's some cheetos left.

Late to the party?  I used Brock's Trade Deadline Blueprint tool (did you?) and made a post titled Sell, Retool last week which answers the questions others posted here, and pretty much everything else I've posted lately has been on a similar tangent.  Before that, I've posted hardly anything for weeks, for various reasons.  This one-word post with a one-word title was intended as a joke playing off on all the verbiage that has been expended of late by myself and others (looks like Brock caught it with his response).

Late to the party?  Has any team made big trades yet?  I may have missed one or more, but MLBTR seems to be still concentrating on "9 under-the-radar bullpen trade candidates" and the like.  Buyers simply don't seem to decide until they find out which teams are sellers, the better to exploit an eventual oversupply when teams finally wave the white flag.  Until that happens, every plan to sell or buy is provisional, whether the GM's plan or my own.

Late to the party?  I'm gonna invoke Satchel Paige and say I was right on time.  😀

Oh.

Never mind then.

I think the one player they could trade who would bring back MLB-ready starting pitching, or at least the raw material of a good starter, would be Royce Lewis.

They literally traded a rental for Ryan. I'm guessing they can get the "raw material" of a starter for several of their non core players.

The current FO is what brought us what we have right now. Why are so many sure that this time they will get it right?

I'm not sure, but I know keeping the expiring deals won't help them at all. At least there's a chance they get something if they do trade. They've actually done well selling, they've done less well buying.

There are several teams in the league with a Tampa Bay freebie on their roster—Manzardo and Arozaren come to mind. Not as valuable as Ryan but still solid. There is at least one more big name that’s not coming to me at the moment. Blake Snell was another one, but offseason I think. Anyway, yeah Joe Ryan was a great pickup. If it was that easy, they would be doing a couple Joe Ryan trades every year. But it isn’t.

so what’s your plan though? Ok, trade guys for prospects, and then what?

I get that. It's the wholesale "sell it all" sentiment I don't get.

EDITED. In general I DON'T trust this FO to build a better team for the future.

My plan? Trade the expiring contracts. Other than that? I'd pretty much fire everyone at this point, but that's not what this thread is about.

The retooled playoff format means that basically nothing will ever happen until July 25th. Which is why I said a few weeks ago that essentially boiled down to "what I think right now doesn't matter, as no decision should or will be made until the end of July".

Can't be late to the party if the party doesn't start until July 30th.

Yeah, the expanded playoff format has really nerfed the trade deadline. Gave a lot of teams false hope, which leaves only the bottom feeders like CWS, COL, and the A’s as clear sellers. Slim pickings on those teams…

In the next CBA we should talk about moving the trade deadline back to Aug 31. It will diminish expiring contract player’s values greatly, but at least by that time teams know if they’re in or out.

Yep.  It's pretty sad this team won 13 in a row earlier this season and climbed over 5 games above .500 and has sunk back down below .500 again. The streakiness of this group of guys is just maddening.

This team needs retooling, a new manager, and a owner.  IT's a damn shame too because the starters are pretty good at times and more talent is in the pipeline, when in the past this team had good hitting, but was starved for pitching going back to the early 2000's.

Shakes head, such a shame.  The offense is so anemic it's sickening.
