Trading cost-friendly Pablo makes no sense. Trading Pablo only makes sense if we are rebuilding. But then we have to trade both Correa & Buxton, if we can't trade them it'd be counter-productive. Pablo can be up & down during the season while adjusting. But in the postseason, I wouldn't want anyone else.

I heard it on KFAN from Bonnes and someone in the comments mentioned that the Pohlad's are in commercial real estate which is a real sh*t show, like bankrupt banks level of a problem.  If they're in deep enough I don't think this sale is gonna take long b/c they have a liquidity problem.  Bonnes mentioned they have already sold four other businesses.  Think about what they have already done when they announced payroll cuts coming off a playoff win and would add nothing at the trade deadline.

Won't be surprising at all if they trade Pablo and make other moves to shed those fixed expenses.  To a new owner the worse it gets the lower the price.  If you're the new owner making the Pohlads deal Buxton and Correa gets them out of the fiscal mess of huge contracts for injury prone, part time players.

oh yeah, then there's that little problem with the RSNs blowing up and the huge impact to revenue.  And the Twins aren't going to be the only teams looking to shed payroll.

No, but it changes the price. The contract value when the sale didn't happen was 8-10% of the sale value. That moves the needle.

The contract had zero effect on the bid as you can see by the numbersper an SI article On the bid. Moreno being Moreno took the team off the market

But ESPN has now reported some actual offers that Moreno rejected last year for the team and let's just say... he was not kidding when he was talking about how big the sums were.

"The Angels, sources said, had five prospective buyers who were willing to bid at least $2.5 billion, a mark that would have surpassed the current record held by the

New York Mets

In 2017 the Royals had a payroll of $127m, 2018 payroll was $130m, 2019 $67m. Royals sold in August of 2019.

The numbers say the payroll went down. What happened with the club is they got old and had already lost the core. Sure it happened at the time of the sale but the club was so bad they had to start over.

Without the Rendon contract what would the price have been?

I don't see a reasonable match in a trade of Lopez. His contract is not out of line and has zero affect on a sale of the team. Perhaps some decent offer materializes but I cannot find one. Maybe someone else has an idea.

Trade Lopez if you want to confirm that the front office has no idea of what it is doing. Trading the hugely popular Arraez for Lopez, signing Lopez to a huge contract extension, and then trading him a year later, would verify that the team management is incompetent. I like Lopez, but let’s stop saying he is one of the top starters in the league. At best he can be really solid, but he is inconsistent and he’s no ace. As for the idea the Twins have “quietly built one of the most exciting young pitching groups in the majors”. We all need to reserve judgment on that notion. So far, none of these young starters look like a top of the rotation starter, and you need a legitimate number one or a couple of number two starters to have a realistic chance of making a playoff run.

I concur.  Do we want to become the next Miami?  They trade Lopez for Arraez, then 1/3 of the way through Louis' 2nd season they trade him to San Diego for the always coveted "prospects".  Now they don't have to deal with the payroll, but they also don't have either Lopez or Arraez.  Why is that the model we want to emulate?

But if we do decide to trade Lopez, I would like to see them ask San Diego if they would take Lopez for Arraez.  A good way to go out, don't you think?  🤭

As the price was far mor than what the Mets sold for, no difference with the Rendon contract.  You have an opinion. Past this point try a fact

Lopez played all season. Our real problem is our c.f and s.s. 50 million between the two. Who would be our ace? We would spend more on starters then what he is being paid.

Ahhh, pesky facts.  One of us knows we dont have any facts.

"Sources" are merely a convenient messaging device. Not facts.

You sure don’t act like you know you don’t have facts. LA Times also had said the offers were in the 2.5 billion range. Then again, that is the media that you can be so dismissive of because you know so much more about sales of teams than the local paper would
