I just don't get anything about this trade, other than apparently every other GM is baseball is wrong for making trades at the deadline all these years.

Meanwhile, this is a classic reap what you sow situation.  You didn't want to pull the trigger on anything at the deadline except low-leverage flotsam and now you have to put him in during what should have been an easier spot and we see why he only yielded a low minor leaguer.
