This year's sequel to last year's surprise hit has gone completely off the rails. It's possible we'll look back and decide it's not the abject disaster that it appears at first glance, but it clearly didn't stick to the script, the continuity errors are mind boggling and there's a clear cash-grab element here. Basically, it's left us all saying, "This doesn't make any sense, can someone please explain what is happening here? Didn't Carlos Santana die a couple centuries ago?"

So I was thinking, should this mindless sci-fi abomination produce ONE more nonsensical twist before the credits roll, and the Twins throw in the biggest head-scratching plot hole yet by doing another late film Boras-client resurrection, which of the main three would I prefer to see come out on top?

I'm talking about Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery. Should it be a straight 1 year deal, I think I'd go Snell, Bellinger, Montgomery. The reasoning being, that with only one year to gamble on, Snell clearly has the upside to be that second playoff starter I think this team needs. Bellinger is a logical 1B/CF safety net and Montgomery is really good, but not exactly really great.

However, if it was a deal akin to Carlos Correa's original contract, with three years but opt outs, I'd go Montgomery, Snell, Bellinger. That reasoning being that Montgomery does seem to be a pretty reliable mid-rotation guy at worst, meanwhile with any perusal of their track records it's clear that Snell and Bellinger are easily capable of getting beheaded in the first act which would significantly hurt the chances for next year's follow up.

Just for fun (because baseball is still supposed to be fun regardless of the current atmosphere here), who would you choose? Obligatory: There can be only one!

Fun it is! For a 1-year deal Montgomery seems like the safest choice, in my opinion, but I'm also intrigued at the idea of adding a fully productive Bellinger for a year. Despite our need for another top-flight arm in the rotation, I think I might opt for the absurd idea of Bellinger for a year. We can just slug our way to a pennant.

Snell. If you're going all in I want a guy with the potential of six perfect innings and let 3 relievers get the rest of the outs.

But no way I give him the option of collaring the club with potentially 3 years of bilateral leg weakness if he sucks verses 1 year of greatness and he is gone.

Paying Buxton $15M. Bellinger off a pretty good year for big $$???? Not wise, not happening.

Can’t sign great or bust IMO, no Snell.

Really good 85% of the time works really well. Montgomery has a CAREER 3.68 ERA - last year he was the Rangers (world champs) best pitcher from time he arrived over next 3 months. His stuff isn’t dynamic - don’t care, if he gets guys out! $30M - $24M - $24M…….player option after 2nd year…….$5M buyout for team for year 3. Worst case he gets $59M if Twins option out after year 2. His 3 year payout is potentially $26M average at $78M total. Boras wants the world, always, probably not enough?

#1. Bellinger for that original Correa deal
#2. Montgomery for that original Correa deal
#3. Snell for 1 year

I'm not as sold on the offense as many others. I think there's a clear need for Bellinger's bat as is, but I want as good of Buxton/Kirilloff insurance as I can get also. And he covers both of them about as well as one could hope for. I think it's easier to bullpen their way through some playoff games if the rotation falters than it is to platoon their way to a good offense if the lineup falters. Give me the bat.
