Another Lefthanded bat? Rather give Walner and Larnach more chances. If we’re gonna trade for an outfielder it needs to be a righty.

"The athletic switch hitter" must have flown over your head.

Please please trade for Lars Nootbaar! That name just screams Minnesota.

Seriously though, I think Carlson would be a better fit than some of the names I've seen thrown about. That said, I don't see a package that would get it done. The Twins organization is not deep in pitching, and they will probably have to add another arm in the off-season. The Twins should be clinging to young controllable arms like Varland and SWR, and I don't see the Cardinals taking more outfielders in return.

Cardinals fan here. Nootbaar is untouchable. Management is going to leverage his huge popularity with Japanese fans and players to recruit a quality Japanese starting pitcher this off-season.

I'd be pretty surprised if they dealt Nootbaar as well.  Seems that Carlson would be the odd man out, which I'd be happy with acquiring.

Which quality Japanese pitcher?

Carlson is the same age or younger than each of these players.

I also didn't propose trading Lewis, Kirilloff or Julien to acquire him.

Sorry about the (why the hell) part Lou. You simply proposed an option. I just get frustrated when the Twins are slow to trust the kids I've been following in the minors for year. I feel robbed when they trade them before they get an opportunity to prove themselves in the big. I posted the stats simply to show our problem isn't the young guns. I however would offer up Meranda. I think he's had enough time in the big to show his deficiencies thanks for writing the article my friend.

As stated in the OP, Carlson is a switch hitter.

The attraction, though, is as a RH hitter vs LH pitching. 368 career PAs, .310/.381/.477

Whoops! My bad!! I missed the switch hitter part and glanced at his reference page... it said throws left so I gagged...

OK, he's a quality defender and switch hitter and only 24yo. Sounds great, and what the Twins need.

But he also can't crack the Cardinals lineup on a daily basis for a losing team looking to re-tool?

And the Cards want ready pitching? Or so it's inferred.

NO.

Let's trade Wallner, or Larnach for a ready made ML arm, who can't quite get ever day duty to those in front of them. Isn't that about the equivalent?

The Twins, unfortunately, are going to have examine CF really hard for 2024. But trading ready or near ready pitching talent for a questionable option should be off the board at this point.

Something cheap? Fine. No interest at this time.

Miranda, Larnach or Wallner and a low minor leaguer seems fair for Carlson, who hasn’t proven himself.

He's certainly proven himself more than any of these three. Why would the Cardinals be interested in another outfielder, and Miranda's season doesn't scream 'we need him' to any team. The Cardinals would ask for a much better prospect than a low minor leaguer here - probably Maya, and that isn't happening.

I think people are seriously over-valuing the trade value of some of our corner outfielders. They're both bouncing around between AAA and the majors, and neither is exactly a complete player (or in danger of becoming one).

I think since the Cardinals are 5 or 6 deep at the outfield depth they really don't have the leverage to ask for 3 prospects like some are proposing. I think one pitching prospect would be sufficient.

Take your pick of Louie Varland, Simeon Woods Richardson or Alejandro Hildago.
