I would hope the crankiest fans will be pleased with this game.

I can't think of any common complaints that weren't satisfied by this game.  Except maybe that Buxton didn't play center but he did hit two bombs.

Yeah I probably qualify. Yeah, what a performance, and honestly goes a long way to remind us of what this team is capable of.

On to Detroit!

Wait wut? 9 innings of Ryan?? My fantasy teams needs innings from Duran and Steward!! Rocco get tossed out before the 8th plz..Ok seriously hellah oh game from Ryan. Great to see and hopefully more to come!

If Buton was in center the red sox would have -1 runs scored...(whoops just jerking chains again)

I honestly think that when Ryan is on, he has the pinpoint control that Gray just doesn't possess.  Which isn't a negative to Gray, but Ryan is becoming a damn good pitcher.

I would say when Gray is really locked in he has that command, maybe just not as often or maybe sustained through an outing.

Analytics is not blindly following the numbers.  It's knowing when to apply to numbers in the most effective ways.  In that way, fail. Let the computer manage if this is what we are going to do.

Let the righty bat against a righty in the first inning and save the moves for a more important time if we are so concerned about the opener.  At least its not a completely verboten sbr matchup, the numbers support that for one at bat in question that would be a better option.  Stack the lineup differently if you need to.

I'm a defender of Rocco generally but this is dumb.

Don't think this is just Rocco

What exactly do people think Rocco’s job actually is?  I’m not trying to poke at you, I see lots of comments like this and the thought makes no sense to me.  No doubt they are on the same page but do we think he gets to work everyday with a task list like the new guy at a construction site?  Does he get a call in between innings?  I don’t mean to be short but I haven’t seen any evidence to support the Rocco as a puppet narrative.

He most certainly has a big seat at the big table and this would be a core responsibility of he and his staff.  Falvine have their own core responsibilities. They probably are all ok with it which is more concerning. Someone needs to ask the question, what does this gain us?

My point is the opposite of this but just a small point and not necessarily a critique of the rest of your comment. Just that this was mapped out before the game started.

Question because I don't know; there must be a pregame meeting where roster construction and the day's gameplan are discussed. Who attends these meetings?

I am very curious about this as well. I haven’t seen or heard of any reporting of a day in life of Rocco or falvine. It’s just frustrating when there is no way to know who made what choice but the talk is so certain.

I would bet really good money neither Falvey or Levine is in this meeting.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t meet with Rocco more than weekly.

When Gray is locked in he has the secondary pitches that Joe lacks.  One of the major reasons Joe can get away with throwing that fastball nearly 60% of the time is his placement.  Which isn't a knock on Gray because Ryan's fastball has one of the highest pitch values in the league.

Sonny's problems arise when he doesn't have control on that slider, it forces him to throw more fastballs, which isn't nearly as effective as Ryan's and he doesn't have the control Ryan has....which is how he runs up those high pitch counts early so often.  They are both very effective pitchers in their own way, and I do think Ryan is more apt to "blow ups" but when he on...damn he's fun to watch work.

Kepler is a good field, Julien is a lousy fielder, Kirilloff ?

These weren't for defensive replacements though.  They were replaced in like the 4th inning and Kiriloff is a good defensive 1st basemen.
