YourHouseIsMyHouse Provisional Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I think it's the right move to keep Gibson down for now.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Gibson has 100 innings left max. Are they really just going to burn through them now as fast as they can in AAA?
mikelink45 Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 This frustrated me enough to force me to register instead of just read the Twins Daily reports. Is Sam Deduno the future? Does it help to use up all of Gibson's innings in the minor leagues? What is this season about - the future, now... If they want Deduno get rid of one of the other stiffs in the rotation, but lets see if we can get Gibson in the majors while he can still be considered a relatively young prospect.
Steve Penz Verified Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I think this was covered in detail in another post about Gibsons almost no hitter so please forgive if this is a repeat. I see no issue with him staying down for another couple of starts. They should make sure to preserve the extra year of service and there is no harm getting a few more reps in AAA. He may still get 8 innings at AAAA. I am excited to see him too but it is not like he is the keystone to winning the central.
spideyo Provisional Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I think it's pretty clear that Gibson will benefit more from a couple more AAA starts than Deduno will. It's not like he's being blocked forever, Not sure if its a factor or not, but it wouldn't be doing Gibson any favors to have his MLB debut come out a time when our offense is slumping badly and our defense has been inconsistent at best. I don't want the kid to come out and pitch alright, but lose because of bad play behind and no run support. That wouldn't do anything for his confidence.
cmathewson Provisional Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I'm not all that happy about this. But I can understand it. Deduno was scheduled to start the year in place of Hendriks until he hurt his groin in the WBC championship game. This is how long it has taken him to work back to his former position. He has done nothing to suggest he doesn't deserve to get his spot back now that he's ready (unlike DeVries). Deduno can be a great asset to this team, either as a solid starter or trade bait. They have to get him up here to prove it, though. I also think the Twins will not be all that patient with the other guys in the rotation. We'll see Gibson soon enough, and he'll start 15 games or so before they have to shut him down.

Winston Smith Verified Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Probably for the best gives Andy less time to spend teaching Gibbie "pitch to contact".

DAM DC Twins Fans Provisional Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I think right move. Gibson has been very up and down in Rochester and has not put back to back good starts together. No harm in waiting...
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 As I said before, I doubt Gibson sees MLB this season. He has been pretty up and down in AAA, so why exactly should they burn his innings in MLB? Deduno is what the Twins likely view as an expendable commodity. Gibson is more valuable, and it makes sense for the team to make him iron things out in AAA so he has less to iron out in MLB.

jun Verified Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Apparently neither do you, or you wouldn't have posted that.....it makes no sense, in multiple ways Well sure I don't know much about the money business in baseball, what I understand is that the Twins need to hold Gibson in the minor league for at least one more month so that they could pay less for his service time if he could stick with the Twins for many years. Now tell me what you know about?
Han Joelo Verified Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Deduno didn't have to re-sign with the Twins this offseason. Maybe this is a bit of a loyalty thing.
johnnydakota Verified Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Im guessing Gibson will have things ironed out once the super 2 date has elasped....and rightfully so, with the teams inability to draft and develope quality starters , we want to hang on to the couple we do for as long as posible....good move.also Samuel Deuno has earned it, last year and this spring ....
huhguy Verified Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Great move! We just got better, thrilled Gardy recognizes this
DedunoTheMuffinMan? Provisional Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I love watching Deduno, so I'm excited. His pitches are just crazy.
Twins Twerp Provisional Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted this in another thread, so apologies for flooding the Gibson walls: I haven't seen this anywhere, but I was thinking to myself when I saw Deduno would make the start: "Is this a financial move by the Twins?" This thought made me hate myself but here is why I think this. Not for service time or any of that BS. Deduno's start will be made on the road if I am not mistaken. Could the Twins brass be thinking: "Gibson is a popular prospect whom Twins nation knows a lot about, should we wait until a home game to call him up?" Of course not every (or 98%) of Twins fans are as versed in the Farm system as we (td.com) are, but Gibby is popular. He has a spot on "Spotlight, The Next Generation" or whatever they call it. They frequently talk about him in the booth, both on radio and Television. He could bring in more ticket sales for the first start of "GIBBY's" career. Just a thought, or am I reading too many TD articles and refreshing BA.com too often?
fairweather Provisional Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Everyone needs to calm down. The entire rotation as it is currently comprised with the exception of Deduno and Diamond is horrible. Gibson will get "the call" soon enough.
jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 I like Sam Deduno. He's a blast to watch, with his crazy fastball and his 12-to-6 curve. Deduno brings a level of excitement to Twins games, which sometimes seem bland. This team needs a pinch of hot sauce, not more lefse.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 According to Gardy, it's because Day-twah is afraid of facing Deduno. Deduno has two career starts against the Tigers. 10 runs in 9.1 IP. This organization has turned into a joke.
