Ha! Started clicking in off facebook notices, then started visiting the site, then registered a few days ago, then realized how much I appreciated the regular articles (especially in a void of local press/radio baseball talk). So this morning I thought I'd look to see if there was a way to pay in, and there was this article. Thanks for the good work!

Whenever I listen to KFAN, they are yammering on about the Vikings or something not related to sports.

I'm happy to hear about this option. I've honestly read TwinsDaily less since the last re-design because I found all the ads and pop-up videos and whatnot to be too annoying. It's also seemed especially slow lately? I'm assuming there's been something of an uptick in traffic... ?
I love what you folks do though, so keep up the good work. I guess I'll have to add this to the pile of baseball related subscriptions I have!

Traffic has been a lot higher than normal this week. It's one of the reasons we mentioned a distributed server coming soon. It's necessary, but expensive.

Just curious, I've always wondered how exactly this site runs - do the writers posting articles get paid from ad revenue? How exactly have things been kept afloat for the past 10 years?

I do think the gold/silver borders around every post is a bit too much, I think it's a bit distracting. Having the badge below the avatar and name is fine.

I plan on contributing soon. Thank you to all who have kept Twins Daily running!

Hmmm, what about the unending popup ads that clutter everything up and make it an obstacle course to read an article? My increased effort to even read anything posted due to said ads makes me think I've done my part.

Yes, the writers get ad revenue from their story page views. It's how we've been doing things for the past several years but even as we've maximized ad revenue, it still isn't enough, as the maintenance of the site is growing faster than our ad revenue.

As for the borders, I toned those down last night. They looked great in the test environment but as more people signed up, the page became a bit overwhelming.

We'll have to get you from lurking to posting :) A good way to jump in is with game threads, once the season starts ... or ... just jump anywhere, when you have something to say!

I started reading Seth years before Twins Daily.

My routine reading included Gleeman, Seth, and "Twins Geek" Bonnes.  I liked his family nicknames Bonnes used - Voice of Reason and Chatty Chatty Princess (and was there also The Boy, or was that from somewhere else - maybe Dave Barry?).  Thinking about how old my kids were then and how old they are now, and I bet Princess is an adult now and would give dad a hard time if she found out someone remembered that name.

If she hasn't graduated college yet, she's close to doing so.

What if i didn't want a big gold or silver halo around every post i make?

(I think i'd rather have mel blank read my posts out loud, if that were an option.)

Bump. (not noticing a response...)

And to clarify, no i don't really need the vocal talents of Mel Blanc (and sorry for spelling his name wrong), but i still would rather have the option of not being haloed or acknowledged. Are we allowed to do so anonymously? (Well, i wouldn't complain about not having ads, but i figure that is less work for you, while changing how my stuff gets displayed to everyone else smells like more work)

I've had the same thoughts.

But one counter-weighing argument is that it is good for the site that readers see people have stepped up.  It may encourage others to do likewise.  I'm happy to play my little role in that overall aim.

There probably becomes diminishing returns to this, though.  After a week or two, perhaps the "halo" should go away.  I support the site not because I want pats on the back.

Likewise.(At least with my vaguely pithy comments if not financially)

Up in New England, with a 50odd man roster, averaging maybe 250lbs, that's like... 6 tons? I'd go so far as to say i'd rather avoid the Pats on my back.. (I might consider driving the bus, though. Just as long as no one checks what class license i have.)

Anyway, i do believe i eminently prefer bein' "Ol' Timey"... just like the soggy bottum boys.

Well, it was nice being ol' timey.

Wonder if i will ever be ol' timey again...

Remember when we got to make our own labels? Those were the days!

I will also add i am still getting ads.

Sure, the ones that i had gotten into the habit of clicking away don't automatically pop up, but there are still the background ads, and those are worse because i can't click them away.
