The 40-man roster is now full, I assume. There are guys out there and I don’t think the Twins should wait until they get a discounted price on contracts. Should be at 39. Was at 38 before yesterday so trading Garver and adding IKF and Gray would add 1.

This. It's only 2 years (doubtful he's extended) but it's also badly needed stability. A LOT still has to go right for this staff if the Twins are going to actually be competitive, but this is a step. Mike is right too, this move makes the first round of FA even more head scratching.
twinfan Verified Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I never liked Gray when he was with the Yankees and I'm not going to like him with us. He is an over-rated pitcher who is not any better than even Ober or even Ryan even though they are just kids. Even Petty could turn out better in the long run. However we definitely need pitching to make a run at the White Sox. At least Gray has a friendly option for the Twins in '23. I wish we'd have traded for Bassett or even Castillo rather than Gray.

OK he wasn't listed when I looked earlier but he is now. Also Maeda will be moved to 60 day DL soon so that's at least one more spot that will be available.

They have the money. Even with Garver gone and our new shortstop, we still have a nice lineup. You mean the lineup that was 73-89, 20 games behind the White Sox? That lineup?
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 The Twins now have company in the "traded our 2021 first rounder" club. The Blue Jays just traded their 2021 first rounder (19th overall), college pitcher Gunnar Hoglund, in the package to acquire third baseman Matt Chapman from the A's.
