Minor League Report (10/3): Closing Time

The 2021 Minor League season came to a close for the Saints Sunday and thus for the Twins farm system. The Saints 6-4 victory means they finished four games above .500 in their first year as a Twins affiliate.

The Saints went out with a bang, winning on the back of four multi-hit games from its lineup. Andrew Albers started and went six innings, allowing seven hits and four runs with three strikeouts. Albers finished the season with a 3.88 ERA. 

St.Paul jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Mud Hens Kody Clemens and top Tigers' prospect Spencer Torkelson homered to tie the game in the fifth. Two innings later, Tomás Telis belted a solo homer to take the lead back. Drew Stankiewicz scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to open it up. 

Ian Gibaut struck out one in relief while Yennier Cano dazzled in the finale. Cano threw two scoreless, hitless innings with three strikeouts. 

The Saints wrapped up a very successful first season as an affiliate with the Twins. The final record: 67-63.

Is there any potential for Telis in the majors? I have not read any reports of him being even a top 30 or 40 Twins prospect, but he seems to have a solid bat.

He played in the majors for the Rangers and Marlins from 2014-2018, and it didn't go too smoothly for him. I believe the Twins regard him as catching depth. He could get another shot if the right people get injured.

It felt like the Saints were much better than 67-63, but I guess the pitching was pretty bad. I enjoyed having AAA be in St. Paul and I hope to make it to a few more games there next year.

baseball-reference.com computes their "Pythagorean" record as 70-60, so the difference must be losing a few too many close ones, and might account for what you felt.

He's 30. Not the Twins 30th best prospect; he's 30 years old.
