Just perusing Gameday and saw the bizarre end of the 3rd inning described as two different players out at 3rd base without a ball being put into play.  Anyone tell me what happened?

Just got back to computer and am tryin' to make heads or tales of it too...

 

1) It is spring training, so Gameday is less well managed than normal. So the involvement of Jorge Alcala probably won't get updated/fixed.

 

2) As for real life, somehow Kepler got called out? Perhaps he was picked off? There is a count listed as 2 balls and 1 strike. Could be either the pitcher or catcher who gunned him down. Or it could have been some sort of interference call?

The Red Sox pitcher had thrown 21 pitches if I count correctly. Hence, inning over.

 

Spring training baseball this year will be even more unlike real baseball than is usually the case.

strange rules, with bases loaded Red Sox announce last batter since there were more than 20 pitches already in the inning, Sano comes to plate so he is the last batter of inning regardless of what happens, He hit a double drove in two runs, inning over with runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Not sure why we wouldn't just send the runner who ended up on third but very strange rules this Spring.

Good call. And it took a long time to update Gameday as it needed to be reset manually somehow to override game situations which don't normally occur.

No need to risk an injury if it would be a close play. The score doesn't matter.

Not sure how the throwing error played out, but i credit speed as a contributing factor between Celestino, Broxton, and Gordon on the bases. And a sac fly later in the inning for the lead.

The game wasn't broadcast & my computer was in use sooooooo

on  a hunch I said

'ALEXA, Play WCCO" and low and hehold, WCCO came on and I coould listen to the game. 

I'm not sure it would have worked if I didn't have MLB Twins Package, but it made me happy.

It was mentioned during the game today that games could be streamed for free ... not sure if they meant just ST or if that will be true during the regular season, too.
