Catch-Up

Randy Dobnak actually had some double plays turned behind him, Sano might've very well found his swing, and today already marks the final game of the season (pending playoffs) between the Twins and KC. We're nearly at the halfway mark of the season and it's a three horse race at the top of the AL Central with Cleveland 0.5 games back and Chicago a game back so, as we all expected in this shortened season, every game counts.

Where to Listen

WCCO 830, TIBN, 102.9 The Wolf

Where to Watch

Fox Sports North

Starting Pitchers

  • Minnesota: Matt Wisler, 0-1, 1.50 ERA, 12.0 IP, 1.00 WHIP, making his second start as an opener.
  • Kansas City: Kris Bubic, 0-3, 5.12 ERA, 19 K's, last start vs.MN went 4.1IP, had 2ER in the loss.

Storylines

1. Already, this is the finale of the season against Kansas City and a win today would mean the final season series would be split at 5-5, but right now the season series is at 4-5 which means against the rest of the schedule, the Twins are 14-5. The Royals bullpen, along with a stellar performance from the batting order, have made for some eventful baseball this August and I'm assuming the regular season finale between these two clubs will leave no spots unchecked and should be an awesome game.

2. I'll go full Tim "Quirkjian," here. In games against Kansas City where Max Kepler records an RBI this season, the Twins are 3-0, so...I think we'll need some "Max Power," today. Outside of Kepler, Sano and Rosario are seeing the ball well and couple that with a warm beautiful day in KC, the Bombas may be flying out of the yard in a flurry today.

Seriously, Bert is awful. Guy has said the same old schmutz since 2005. Time to go. Next!

Time to light this young buck up! Let's go Twins!

I'm surprised that Gordon didn't try to get him at home. He's got a gun (or used to have). Maybe he had sympathy on his catcher who would have been blocking the plate against a tank!

When Sano rounded third I was yelling, "No, no, no!" Was it not that close or was it Miguel's deceptive speed?

It is sooooo time for robo-ump!

I disagree. That's part of baseball. Human error has always been a part of baseball. No need to stop that now. Covid has definitely put a hit on the umpires this year, there's no question about it.

Now, that fastball down the middle the other night from the Royals pitcher was just brutal, but hey, those a the breaks. Mauer's "foul" ball was fair!

I spent 15 years as a soccer referee. I wanted every call to be right, but was often not able to be in the exactly right spot to see it or just missed it. I would have loved to have help in doing the job better. Here's a situation where we don't even have to interrupt the game for instant replay in order to get the call right. Quick message into the ump's ear saying that the electronic tracker thinks it's a ball or strike, then let the ump make the call (and overrule if there is something that the electronic tracker misses). It's still a human making the call, but he has the same advantage that we have on TV.

So we're what, seven days from the deadline? Twins going to make any moves? I say nay...

Concur. I don’t think any trades besides DFA player dumps will happen in baseball.

I get making the "right call", but what's to say that the "box" is the actual strike zone? I say science be damned! Let the umps live!!

If you could trade Buxton for Merrifield one for one today, would you do it?

I'd go Buxton, Lewis and probably Duran for Merrifield if we're being honest.
