Giants buying

I see the Giants involved in a rumor looking for a 2B.

They have bullpen depth. Twins have middle infield depth.

How about Schoop for Watson?

I think it is rental for rental as I believe Watson has a player option.

I think both teams improve a weak spot using their depth without sacrificing future.

Trade Schoop and you are one infield injury away from Nick Gordon being on the roster.

If one of Polanco or Arraez go down I still have Gonzalez and Adrianza before I start Gordon both of whom I trust at 2B. Additionally unlike previous years Gordon is having a good second half. I suppose I could worry about three middle infielders going down.

Playing Gordon everyday may be one of the smartest things the Twins could do.  He can field. He can hit. He's got great genes.  :)

This... makes a lot of sense.

Is this one of those things that only makes sense on paper? Because it makes a lot of sense on paper.

All four of those guys are on the roster. As is Schoop btw. Like I said, one injury and Gordon is on the roster. Considering he’s probably the most likely guy to be traded elsewhere for pitching, that is a problem. Take him away and then who is your next up?

It depends, but I would assume Wade or Cave. Getting Gordon’s feet wet wouldn’t be the end of the world either.

Ronald Big Toe Torres has MLB experience too.

I’m not sure I’m following.

At full strength, here is the depth chart without Schoop:

1B Cron

2B Arraez

SS Polanco

3B Sano

MI Adrianza

UTIL Gonzalez (has played SS)

UTIL Astudillo (has played 3B and 1B)

with Torreyes also at AAA, if you are still afraid of Gordon

Cron and Astudillo are still on IL. That is not likely to change in the next 4 days.

It’s not so much being “afraid of” Gordon. Simply pointing out that the infield isn’t as deep as some seem to think.

Ah, that explains our misunderstanding. I was thinking not of the next four games, but beyond.

They could offer Gordon for Watson but the Giants might not view Gordon as ready to start at 2B. Giving up Schoop is trading the best 2B glove particularly the arm on relay plays as well as a valuable player in the clubhouse.

The Twins could look elsewhere for left handed 7th inning type reliever but I am not sure they find someone better than Watson. The Giants could go into their farm system to get Sogard but may not want to sacrifice any of the future with their low playoff chances.

It just seems like this deal improves both teams for the remainder of 2019 while leaving their system intact.
