What if they bring back Liriano?

What do people think about the twins bringing back Francisco Liriano? Rogers could use some help against LHP and he will be excepted by the fans well. Thoughts

Liriano is playing well out of the pen this year. This year, I trust him more than I trust some of the current Twins bullpen arms.

 

I would say I can't imagine giving up a prospect for a bullpen rental, but Bill Smith did it a few times so I guess I can imagine it. This doesn't mean any team should do it. Ya gotta get more than 20-30 innings out of someone to be giving up a prospect unless the guy is unstoppable.

Unless we can flip him for Escobar again. If there's one thing I've learned this year (and this past week), it's that you can never have too many utility players.

He has good numbers out of the pen this year, and he would be a second LHP out of the pen that I think would help take the load off Rogers. He would also be cheap. I am not suggesting it be the only move we make.

Liriano is walking 4.5 batters per nine innings, has a FIP of 4.19, and an xFIP of 5.04.

 

He is not "pitching well". He is "pitching lucky".

Keep in mind no one in this organization now really has any emotional tie to Liriano, which is a good thing.
