Should his golden statue be 100 or 200 feet tall?

pfft. Everyone knows Stainless Steel is all the rage!

There has been a lot of attention on Perez’ increased velocity, but I will note that Odorizzi is at 92.4mph on his fastball this year, fastest of his career, and all of his pitches are faster as well.

When the Twins signed Johnson, I combed through his resume. His team’s had a marked improvement in ERA and K rates after his arrival, it was uncanny how consistent the quick improvement was. I concluded that his signing may have been the biggest signing of the Falvey-Levine tenure.

“Johnson is known for developing power pitchers. His two Arkansas staffs finished with a combined 1,238 strikeouts in 133 games, and several Razorbacks saw significant increases to the velocity of their pitches as a result of Johnson's emphasis on lower-body workouts and pitch-mechanic analytics.

“At Johnson's urging, prior to the 2017 season Arkansas installed a radar system called TrackMan that records and analyzes 46 data points for pitchers on every pitch.

“If you get into biomechanics, you find out really fast that a pitcher cannot repeat his delivery," Johnson told WholeHogSports in 2017. "You’ve got over 600 muscles in the body. To think that the roughly 240 that we use in pitching are going to fire at the same time - you’ve got a better chance at winning the lottery. TrackMan gives me a chance to show guys a consistent release height and some things we can repeat."

I never thought much about the contracts coaches sign, but I wonder whether the Twins added a "Non-Disclosure" clause to Johnson's, pertaining not just to what he learns with the Twins (standard) but what he brought in (not standard?).

My quick search turns up TrackMan as marketed primarily as a golf diagnosis tool. Intellectual property law can be complicated but if I were the Twins I would at minimum ask Johnson to not say one further word on how he adapted this tool to baseball use. The information that he's identified 46 data points is already too much (unless it's intentional obfuscation, in which case, kudos!), but let the other teams figure out the rest on their own.

Besides that, this information tells me that Johnson is scary smart and a very effective teacher.

That is a rare combination and if his success continues he'll wind up being able to command big money.

So you pay him.

I saw someone speculate that he might like to manage. If so, it gets complicated. But if there are parts of the manager's job that he'd rather not do, offer to pay him like a manager but let him do the pitching coach duties that he loves.

You don't do that with every coach, but if the FO continues to believe he's a difference maker, then just do it, until he isn't anymore.

Big fan of the Track Man system... Used it for a couple of golf lessons. With the data provided and a good coach I cut my scores down quite a bit.

For years I have berated the Twins for their apparent lack of concern on the importance of a starting pitching staff. Seeing Rick Anderson yesterday and Wes Johnson on our side, with the Twins winning 6-0, speaks volumes about which approaches actually work

You finally shot under 100?
