Regarding Cruz, I imagine there's got to be some reason why he hasn't hit that we don't know... he's probably our best hitter,  so this is quite baffling.

Baffle and it’s derivatives seems to be the most common word used today in the game thread.

You bat Cruz there. You don’t bat him, just because he isn’t the tying run? You’re not going to be able to bat Cruz for Kepler or anyone else once the top of the lineup rolls around. It makes no sense to bat Adrianza there instead of Cruz, unless you’re afraid of Cruz playing in the field? Which means you rallied? Do not know the rationale there.

But the game was lost long before that.

Good gravy, late to this game, thank the gods.  What in seven hells happened in the fifth?  Was somebody choking to death in the stands after eating some poisoned candied locusts?  Was there some sort of accursement being levied by the dark lord?  I can understand Vasquez ("You ever been mistaken for a man, Vasquez?" "No.  Have you?") throwing crazy, but am I seeing correctly that Hildenberger walked in a run on four pitches?

Yuck.  Except for those three guys towards the bottom of the order.  I'm going to pretend it was actually Thursday already, like I thought it was, and that there wasn't a game at all tonight.  TGIF!

Concur. It's all about bargains and efficiency.....

Meanwhile, the Cubs have brought up Tim Collins, erstwhile Twin, to start.  As with Anibel Sanchez, they may have found their bargain inefficiency-- and let it go.

Not quite. Collins replaced Lester on the roster, but he is going to the pen, and Chatwood will move to the rotation.

Well of course.  Always ready with your "facts" and truthiness, you are.  Although, Perez hasn't been a starter yet either.

The current record holder is a Hall of Famer. So, he would be in good company.

Probably Killebrew, eh?

Players who hit a lot get into a lot of double plays, too. This is for sure. Alas...... 2 outs with one plate appearance is always unwelcome. Astudillo has a long was to go before we start talking about joining the club.

Aha, that helps explain it. A “wind blowing in” situation calls for fastballs, as the breaking balls don’t have as much action as the wind carries them to the plate faster.

It wasn't a gale force, so I don't know about pitches already with a wiggle to them. Although, given the results at certain points, maybe that was indeed what was happening. My point was that pitchers should pitch a bit more confidently because the steady breeze from left to right would tend to hold back blasts to left, and drive foul blasts to right.

In that view, Garner's home run to left was impressive. His power is legit. I'm starting to be a believer in the bat. And there wasn't a comedy of errors behind the plate last night either.
