Here's something totally off topic, but do you old timers remember Eddie Feigner and his softball team, AKA The King and His Court?  Something told me to look him up.  Get a load of this (from Wikipedia):

 

On February 18, 1967, Feigner appeared in a celebrity charity softball game against many Major League players. In the game Feigner struck out Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Brooks Robinson, Roberto Clemente, Maury Wills, and Harmon Killebrew all in a row.[1]

did it say anything about the time in the '70s when he faced the carlson brothers of slap shot fame? after a leadoff single, it went something like steve: double, jeff: double, jack: home run. then they removed the brothers from the game. (i also remember that eddie struck a guy out. from second base. wearing a blindfold.)

I don't buy the argument that 10 extra minutes of commercials before the game are a big revenue generator. The broadcasters can just charge 2% more for the commercials between innings to make up for it. The advertisers will not pause for a moment before agreeing to that.

I’m not an ad exec, but I would be willing to bet that maximum audience is at the beginning of the broadcast, eg 7 pm for a 7:10 start time.
