mgiebel93 Verified Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Wondering why Royce Lewis hasn't been promoted to Fort Meyers? I understand he came right out of high school, but seems like he's ready based off his numbers. Also, what do you think his timeline is? 2019: A, AA? 2020: AAA, MLB? Michael
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Certainly not 2019, and almost certainly not 2020, if he's not in A+ this year. I also don't understand the plan here.....
FormerMinnasotan Provisional Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I don’t understand it as well. Lewis has certainly proven to have mastered A ball in Cedar Rapids, it would only seem right to promote him to Ft Myers now. Our line up is struggling to score runs and has glaring weaknesses so if Lewis is ready for the next step let’s be a little aggressive then.
Don Walcott Verified Member Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 Promote him until he struggles. All athletes need to be playing at levels that challenge them. I worry that failing to promote the most talented players leads to complacency. And the timeline should be “when he’s ready” without limitations.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 I'll never understand fans desires to push prospects through the organization. And I imagine Lewis is very young for his league; that he needs to be on pace to reach the majors as a 20 year old is an absurd standard. Look at what's happening with Buxton, who in retrospect was probably rushed. There's more to the game than what ends up in the boxscore.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 I hate the use of the word "rush", since it implies people are moving that don't deserve to move..... The league is getting younger and younger, just look at the debut dates for some of the elite players in this league. No one is saying promote him to the majors, or AAA, or AA......but he's either ready to close to ready for high A. I'll never understand people that don't want to challenge players with promotions.

diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 Well, he's been promoted...

I think the danger in this is that we are really only looking at the bat. There are plenty of things a guy could be working on even if his box scores say he's having success. I'm willing to trust the front office here. They've been aggressive with this guy. It's not like he's in rookie ball.
