Dick was not impressed with Kepler's AB.

His tone sounded like I sound to myself when Mauer takes two strikes in an RBI situation.

Two shifts in a row that would have been two outs - the grounder maybe a double play. Instead........

Could have been out of the inning.

5-1, its all on those drunk pub crawlers, but there is time to turn this around or get soooo wasted they have no clue as to where they are, provided they even crawled their way into Target Field. 6-1 as I finish typing so 2 Circus Boy updates in one post........... ;)

Don't let this fluky inning distract you from the fact that the twins have scored 31 runs in their last 7 games, 16 came on Tuesday.

Hildenberger did well. If no shifting, no runs. The manager/management did this to him. Hildenberger did what he does, and get the ground balls (well, one easy pop up for a second baseman). Another one on the manager trying to be too smart and sabr shifting.

Let's face it though, everyone in the league does it. It was bad luck, but really, 1 run in 7 innings in a playoff race against Marco Estrada ain't gonna cut it

About shifting:

I assume that they base their defensive positioning and shifting on average batter tendencies. But are they taking into account the propensity and ability of the batter to change his tendency when the shift is applied? It seems like there must be players that, even though they hit to the left side most of the time, shouldn't be shifted because as soon as you shift they will hit the ball to the open position.

Imagine what Rod Carew would have done to a shift...
