I will never ever understand giving up a run to get an out. Never. Not ever. It is tradition, especially early in the game, but how is an extra out, or a runner on first, worse than giving up a run that you could make an out, and not a score? Cain was totally loafing in from third, and he just pulled up on the trip around the bases.

Agree.  With 1 out, I play the IF in in any inning, any close game.

Also...stop taking the first pitch for a strike.  Make this punk a little strike zone shy.  There's no point letting a first pitch FB down the middle every AB.

Berrios looks horrible. Body language too. Get it together, kid!

Yips and rookies in playoff races kinda go together.

That was a perfect pitch. Strike. Umpires suck. Instead, we have the perfect corner strike called a ball, and the bases loaded. That is not fair to the players. Umpires can only guess. It affects every game.

Looked like ball four from my living room.

Look at the MLB pitch fx. perfect pitch. Hard to call it from your living room, eh? especially when so fine.

Those are the ones we have become numb to. The ones that we say could have gone either way. But both batter and pitcher DESERVE the perfect take or the perfect edge of the zone call to be correct!

(And at the same site is a link to a downloadable database showing the broadcasters in every nationally televised game since 1947 (though he’s a few weeks behind). How that applies to this game is that Bert (30) and Dick (11) have a combined 41 national telecasts. That’s dwarfed by the Royals’ Steve Physioc, who has done 316 by himself. That ranks him 22nd in career totals. Physioc’s 312 play-by-play games ranks 13th.)

An additional broadcasting tidbit -- the Twins radio guys said that tonight is Royals radio guy Ryan Lefebvre's 3000th game, combining radio and TV.

Go look at the replay.

Ok. I did. 8 times. You like the angle you see? from slightly left field? Do you call it inside missing? low missing? the ball dropped into the catcher's mit, but where it crossed the plate and the accurate robotic eyes tabbed it..... perfect pitch, that the umpire guessed, just missed instead of not. Hey...... it happens tones of times. Do you really think the umpire can see it better from the horrible eye angle (must be like 45 degrees at least where the ball crosses the plate)?

Hey, it is what it is, and until it changes, it is just another thing to whine about, argue about, etc....... but it is happening all the time.

Were you an umpire? Do you have a bias? If one was a umpire to stay involved on a personal level with the game, do you think that would create a bias?

I agree. totally not egregious. Totally "acceptable" to be called either way. Even if it was wrong. Hey... barely wrong is better, than really wrong? Not at first base. Not for a home run. Not for a catch on the grass. Only, still, at home plate.

Interested to hear how. Low? Inside? How was it a ball. Just curious.

Grossman has had an extra base hit in each of the last four games, but he did lay down a nice sac bunt last inning

I'm going to be hopeful and generous, and assume the third baseman was way back and he was bunting for a hit.

Both times he squared.
