Doesn't matter where the throw went, that run was scoring anyway since Granite doesn't have much of an arm.  But Mauer not thinking that maybe with the runner going they might have a chance at 1st and instead playing cutoff man may have cost them the game.

 

Then again, if Kintzler would stop making it interesting all the time, perhaps we'd be batting still up 5-4.

Unbelievable. Granite is a bonehead. You don't throw it if no one is there. You don't make that throw if someone IS there with a tying run on third that can score if the play is botched.

Would have been tough to throw home with the ball tailing towards right. Mauer should not have went for the cutoff (for what?). But I don't think anyone thought the throw would go to first. Have to at least try. Nobody would have questioned him if he did.

If this was little league I would have lectured my first baseman about needing to be there on that play. It seems to me that Granite was entitled to believe that someone would be there.
