Some are, but most, especially the newer ones, are crammed into a downtown block. Charlotte was always the hot candidate to get an expansion team, but I'm pretty sure they were barely able to fit a 10,000 seat stadium in the spot they just built their new place on.

The park for Charlotte that I saw 20+ years ago was situated in a suburb near the state line. They built a new one, essentially giving up on a MLB franchise?

You'd probably have to abolish the entire draft and farm system thing. Like the old old days of unaffiliated minor league ball where local teams would usually just sign local players who were talented, then the major league teams would swoop in and sign the best of the best.

You're right. Salary caps and drafts definitely serve the interest of parity, but we pay the price of a closed-door system.

They didn't have official relegation, but back in the 19th century the National League and related leagues almost operated that way. The American League basically promoted itself en masse in 1901.

Of course, in those days, the minor league clubs paid player salaries and the "stadiums" were dumps that would mostly be condemned today. Minor league teams today are barely able to pay the bills today and all they basically do is upkeep the stadium and buy some jerseys and a few dozen balls.

I know you're being facetious, but the problem with relegation and promotion in baseball is that minor league parks, even at AAA, aren't adequate for MLB. Most AAA parks have 10-15k seats

That happens in football as well. They have a certain amount of time to get up to standards.

There are more good soccer teams in Turkey than good soccer teams in Chicken.

Hmm. That sounds right, but I don't know enough about soccer to know for sure.

Yep, and they were about to go under before they built the new park. They were always last in attendance despite being a major league city.

True, but it's such a different animal when you play a few home games, er matches, a month as compared to 81 dates

Wow. Twins apparently were just introduced to the concept of the double steal.

a stratagem so sophisticated, it's an entire generation beyond "Hey, look! Your shoelaces are untied!"

Yup. That would be an interesting topic for discussion some day. As a monetary economist I recognize how ridiculous it is to require a "double coincidence of wants" in trading. Cash is much more efficient. But of course it raises other issues because the Yankees could simply spend $100m on acquiring the top players rather than having to give up players (or wait for free agency).

Whenever we play either club, I want to beat the Stuffing out of them.

Speaking of major league expansion, San Antonio just landed a AAA team that will start in a few years. Wonder if they will build a park that could be expanded.

They also locate bedrooms for rent so the players have somewhere to sleep. Just ask Madre Dos. (Where has she been lately, anyway?)

I probably wouldn't let Erv face Calhoun again, but that's just me.

And that's why I'm sitting behind an ipad

I don't know what facetious means but it sounds like I'm awesome.

That's usually only the lowest levels, like short season A level. Pretty sure the higher levels have a few connections who usually rent out to players, but the players usually pay rent themselves, at least they did at AAA where I worked.

Sano made a very nice diving stop of a sharp grounder, earlier. But popups remain one of the weak spots in his game.

The radio guys said he was sprinting for it with his back to the plate and trying to get to it over his shoulder.

After the play:

"That Dozier fella looked lower than a hog's chin on market day!".

I used to order a club sandwich made with Turkey when I was younger.

I stopped eating them because my doctor said I was swallowing too many toothpicks.

Sure, no question, that one was a tough play for anyone. He's about the last I would expect to succeed on that one, is what I really meant.

Don't fall for the ol double steal again.

Yeah, that one's been around even longer than the oooold man-eating toaster bit...
