diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Reds must have had some cash left, or at least high hopes. They picked a HS pitcher ranked in the top 200 in round 12. We grabbed an HS kid in 11 (not top 200), but those moves are definitely in hopes of getting one or two higher ceiling guys to sign away college if they can throw enough money at them. Hoping we can get at least 1 HS guy that way.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Is the MLB.com draft feed working for people?NFL draft coverage >>>>>> MLB draft coverage. Couldn't believe they stopped TV coverage after the 1st round. d-mac, Willihammer, Danchat and 2 others 5

gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Article on Bailey Ober. Basically, he's very tall. Had a great freshman season but followed up with TJ and uneven seasons since. Mechanics and durability are issues. Probably a bullpen guy if he ever makes the majors. http://www.postandcourier.com/sports/college-of-charleston-s-bailey-ober-prepared-for-whatever-happens/article_5bb3a3c2-4bdd-11e7-bee1-3f56ce66635c.html glunn 1

How is that possible? In fairness, I doubt Goodell knows many names either. I do like the speed of the MLB draft compared to the NFL. But overall NFL blows the MLB out of the water with their analysis and breakdowns of every player while it's going on.

How are you going to get the average fan interested in guys they're not going to see for 3-5 years? Some of whom won't even sign? The NFL has guys trying out for the team 100 days later and each team has at least two guys they're hoping will see regular PT. A fan watches because they'll know someone on the field next year. MLB has none of that. The video is also a big part - how much video exists of some of these high school guys? The NFL has video of every guy because they're all in college and they all play games on TV. There's no way to tell how good the competition is either, not an issue in the NFL. MLB is destined to be for draftniks only. Intramural Legend, d-mac, caninatl04 and 5 others 8

Nearly everyone who loves football is interested in the draft as it could mean several impact players right away. Even lots of big baseball fans don't pay attention to the MLB draft. One of my managers at work is a huge Dodgers fan and played in college and he had no clue about anyone in the draft. There are really only a few hardcore Baseball draft people unfortunately Vanimal46 and ThejacKmp 2

I known huge Twins fans right now whose knowledge of the Twins minor league system comes down to three guys - right now maybe Gonsalves, Gordon and Garver? And to be fair to them, if I didn't read TD I would have no concept of the minor leagues either - I wouldn't be checking the box scores every day and keeping track of players.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 What would you suggest?I agree with your original response to me that it's hard to pump up the draft when most players are 3-5 years away. Perhaps there's an opportunity for an organization like BA to record these players at least doing some drills so they can have some analysis between each pick. I did enjoy their coverage of the 1st round where they interviewed prospects and had a little video of them. Just wish they would have kept it going past the 1st round/comp picks.
ThejacKmp Provisional Member Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Is JJ Schwarz going back to school for sure? Crazy that a guy talked about as 1 overall is still on the board.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Or maybe an MLB scouting combine similar to the NFL draft?
