I was hoping to trade it for shiny objects, myself.

How about soft folding pieces of green paper? Ones with pictures on them?

May have been more of a family man.

Some male iguanas may be more of a family man. I just picture him making that '91 WS catch against the plexiglass, and thank the baseball gods that his private life stayed private as long as it did.

Gibson shuts him down and Ervin gives up the grannie. Figure those odds.

See, that's was I was saying before. You need to give up home runs now and then, so as to keep the bases clear and avoid the grand slam.

Yeah, well, I'd be a bit dazed and goofy too if I caught Pujol's 600th home run.

I'm not picking on him, it was just funny to see Dick try to keep the... interview moving along. And I probably wouldn't know my own name if you put me in that booth.

Is that one of Dusty Baker's lesser-known contrarian baseball philosophies?

In all honesty it was one of the poorer interviews I can recall. The two professionals seemed stuck for questions.

Rosario doesn't have much power. That seemed like about as solidly as he can hit it, and it didn't quite reach the warning track.

One of the very very least, I am confident.

Not arguing, but isn't having your foot on home plate "leaning in" per se?

If it's in the course of a normal batting stance, yes...and if you get hit higher on your body, it could lead to a strike called against you (I had to make that call in my high school season this year).  But if you're bunting and your stance carried you outside the batter's box, you're not leaning into the pitch...you're just setting yourself up for trouble if you make contact with the bat.

Saw Tony Gwynn shopping with his wife in downtown Minneapolis when the All Star Game was held at the dome. Her happiness seemed important to him.

Favorite non-Twins player of all-time -- who do you got?

I'll go with, in some order:

Lou Brock

Mariano Rivera

Albert Pujols

Honorable mention to Yount, Molitor (as a Brewer), Schmidt, Edmonds, Freeman.

Pedro Martinez

Randy Johnson

Derek Jeter

Mariano Rivera

Vladimir Guerrero

Andres Galarraga

Ken Griffey Jr

Just noticed that 4 of the 7 I listed were former Expos.

Currently a fan of what Aaron Judge is doing.

It was almost exactly as if they had no idea that an interview with the souvenir holder was a possibility.

Sano looks like a different player on popups than last year.

/ that is a GOOD thing

See point 3 of my original post.

Per Berardino,

Ervin in 7 starts w/Castro:
48 IP, 0.56 ERA, 2 HR

in 5 starts w/Gimenez:

33 IP, 5.18 ERA, 9 HR

So that's... fairly dramatic contrast.

I've never been a big believer in the 'personal catcher' thing, but then again, I was never a pitcher. And if I were Ervin, I'd either want Castro as my catcher or a 1 hour documentary film explaining why not, co-produced by Spielberg and Lucas.

Kepler didn't get a good read on that ball, did he? Fabulous diving catch, but a very near thing.

Can I say Steve Carlton? I know he appeared in a few major league games wearing a Twins uniform but he wasn't really a player any more by that time.

Good choice. He was in the majors before I was born and still in the league when I finished school. The days of the 300+ inning, 15 CG, 300 K titans like Carlton and Ryan are almost impossible to fathom in the context of today's starters.

32 starts and 200 innings is a yeoman effort in the 21st century. Carlton had 30 complete games out of 41 starts during his extraterrestrial, 346 inning 1972 season. The 1.97 ERA wasn't too shabby either.

Biggest game in 6 years tomorrow. Beat Nolasco!

While I wish Alex Meyer was still a Twin, I am glad that the Twins have Berrios in the rotation instead of Nolasco.

Oh, and let me chime in very late with Greg Maddux...slightly ahead of Pedro.
