I root for Gibson because he is a pitcher for my favorite team. He's one of the few that I have pretty much given up on. He's in that category of players that I take any success they have as a bonus: Juan Castro, Ramon Ortiz, Mike Pelfrey, etc.

I don't like saying what I did about Gibson because TD posters get sick of the negativity and so do I, but it is reality. He was maybe a top ten 1st round pick in 2009 who dropped because of an arm injury. At the time, he seemed like he could a big win as a gamble pick.

 

It probably won't work out as he has had TJ surgery, is almost 30, and has not done much of anything to this point. Good pick - it didn't work out. I shed no tears and I cast no blame.

I ride Gibson because I like him, but it's time for him to go sit in the outfield with all the other former starters for a while.

This is the frustrating thing about Gibson that gives his supporters an opening to defend him. He manages to put up sloppy demoralizing games like this but doesn't typically get completely shelled. By the time he leaves you feel like he gave up 10 runs but really it was only 3-4 and left with runners on base in an early inning. Leaving just enough of an opening for those reviewing his stats to claim he's actually not that bad.

 

And it looks like that first QS will have to wait for another day.

I don't see anything about Gibson's game that would translate to the pen. Even adding velocity doesn't seem like it would do much. His struggles the 2nd and 3rd times through the lineup notwithstanding, he only really has value as a horse. He's not a horse

Agreed. I'd like to see what Mejia can do with an extended run to settle in. He's had some early jitters to shake off but hasn't looked lost yet. As long as he's surviving I say let him keep working to see what he's got up here.
