gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Damn. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/yordano-ventura-dies-in-car-crash.html And I hadn't even heard that Andy Marte died in a car accident as well.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Tough year for this sort of thing. RIP and all the best to his family.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Marte's final game in the bigs was in August 2014 for Arizona. The Diamondbacks' opponent that day was the Royals. The starting pitcher? Ventura...
biggentleben Verified Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 As a Braves fan, I was a huge fan of Marte as a Braves prospect. I know this will sound trite, but I've owned Ventura since he was a minor leaguer in a dynasty league, so I've followed his career closely. This really, really sucks...
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 I really liked Yordano Ventura. He made MLB better and fun to watch. I often think of the song "Shooting Star" by Bad Company after things like this. Hoping his loved ones find peace!
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Geez, this world lately ...
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Always sad to lose the young.
Aaron Cross Verified Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Loved Ventura's fire. He wasn't afraid to come up and in. He defended his teammates. Something you don't see much of anymore. What a terrible loss.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Pedro's reports that Ventura's vehicle and person may have been looted and then a still-alive Ventura left for dead (as he expired just before crews got there) is extremely disturbing. His WS ring is missing, and there are conflicting reports about a BOLO being out for it at local pawn shops in the DR.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 According to Deadspin, if he was drunk his family - he has a mom and a daughter - might not get any of his money if he was legally drunk at the time of the accident. That would cost them 20 million. Considering how much poverty he faced growing up and how much is in the DR, I really hope the Royals do right do his daughter, even if he was drunk. http://deadspin.com/report-the-fate-of-yordano-venturas-20-million-depend-1791555319
