As a Braves fan, I was a huge fan of Marte as a Braves prospect. I know this will sound trite, but I've owned Ventura since he was a minor leaguer in a dynasty league, so I've followed his career closely. This really, really sucks...

Loved Ventura's fire. He wasn't afraid to come up and in. He defended his teammates. Something you don't see much of anymore. What a terrible loss.

Pedro's reports that Ventura's vehicle and person may have been looted and then a still-alive Ventura left for dead (as he expired just before crews got there) is extremely disturbing. His WS ring is missing, and there are conflicting reports about a BOLO being out for it at local pawn shops in the DR.

According to Deadspin, if he was drunk his family - he has a mom and a daughter - might not get any of his money if he was legally drunk at the time of the accident.  That would cost them 20 million.  Considering how much poverty he faced growing up and how much is in the DR, I really hope the Royals do right do his daughter, even if he was drunk.
