Sure, they need him to be elite but we need to remember the guy couldn't legally drink alcohol 22 months ago.

 

Just because other players jumped all over MLB pitching at age 22-23 doesn't mean we should expect that of all players. It's an unreasonable standard to hold a prospect.

 

I'm OK with him waiting to become elite in the next year or two.

 

It's not like it would have made any difference this year anyway. I don't think they could have had nine elite bats and gone .500 this year.

I think .250/.310/.450 is a realistic expectation for next year, which I'd be very happy with.

How about some players, that are among the top prospects in baseball....like Sano or Buxton or Berrios...or should we just sit back and say "oh well, it is happening every where but here"....and say everyone else is lucky, and we just should set our expectations low, for every top prospect?

Buxton got a bit cocky with his over the shoulder basket catch attempt last night on a drive by Anderson of the White Sox. Official scorer was a home boy charity worker and gave Anderson a triple instead of Buxton an error. Hey - I stopped what I was doing and watched.

It's easy to make a snap judgment. It's a lot harder to show patience and then declare a process is broken.

Yeah, it's frustrating.

 

But man, I don't know what to make of it. Last year, Sano was a beast. Buxton was a flop.

 

This year, Sano was streaky and underwhelming. Buxton was a flop until he turned into a monster.

 

What does this mean? Dunno, check back next year.

Not really.  I'm saying to stop crowning him as "fixed" based on one week of good play.  People have been doing this all year.  Give the kid some breathing room before cracking open the champagne.  

 

When he plays well for 6-8 weeks then it would make sense to begin saying he is *starting*  to turn the corner.  

Don't think anybody is saying he is ''fixed".  He doesn't need to be "fixed".  He's not even broken.  He just needs to develop and mature.  Fun fact that may or may not have changed over the last 3 weeks:  He's never faced a major league pitcher younger than him.  He's young.  He's going to make mistakes.  He may struggle from time to time.  He may also realize the potential that's been talked about since before he was drafted.  He may not as well.  That's why they play the games.
