Santana's strike zone discipline is slowly but surely improving. He used to run up into the stands to swing at balls out of the zone, but now he stays on the field at least.

 

So that's progress.

I really like Coomer, if for no other reason than that he really came into his own as a Twins icon after his playing days were over.

 

But when I see what he looked like back then, it still makes me think that he must have at least occasionally had a hell of a time convincing a non-fan here or there that he was a major league baseball player.

Mauer has been significantly less awful than he was last year, but Bremer's reference to his getting the benefit of the doubt with respect to the strike zone made me wonder not only how much longer that may be the case, but how much it's still really true even now.

For sure. It looked like a foul into the stands off the bat. Or off the end of the bat, rather. He's been lucky to just make contact vs. RHP lately, let alone drive the ball. Maybe the rust is finally wearing off.
