9-7 game with 2 on and nobody out in the 8th and your best hitter coming to the plate and you bunt him??  WTF for???  The baseball gods laughed and forced the 3-5 putout.  Come on Molly, you're better than that...I think.

So, by sacrifice bunting, if successful, you need a hit to get the tieing run across the plate.

 

You'd need a hit somewhere to get the tieing run across the plate from first base, too.

 

Only now, you have two chances instead of three to get that hit.
