Berrios vs. Meyer? or Meyer vs. Berrios?

Was really excited when word was out that Meyer got the call up Monday.  Time to give that guy a chance.  He's been excelling in Rochester and looks like a totally different player than he was last year.  Thought that he would have been put in Monday night.  When that didn't happen I thought, "Definitely Tuesday night."  Well of course, that didn't happen, either.  While I am happy for Berrios - why can't the Twins figure out what they are going to do?  If they knew they were going to call up Berrios and have him throw Wednesday night, why didn't they send up Berrios on Monday?  Meyer could have stayed in Rochester, on schedule in the rotation, and already have thrown Monday against Buffalo (which he was scheduled to do).  It has now been 9 days since he last threw and he has been just dealt a HUGE disservice by just sitting in the Twins bullpen wondering "am I going to go in tonight?"  Gotta feel bad for the guy.

I agree, am quite puzzled why they would call Meyer up and still not have used him. Like you said now it's 9 days rest, and we've seen it far too often, when pitchers get too much rest they become very erratic and ineffective.

There's plenty of room in the rotation for both Meyer and Berrios with the DL stints, and ineffectiveness out there.

Also, just a thought, but since we have no effective closers on roster, why not try Meyer at closer, if they aren't going to use him at starter?

I think the main thing was just insurance for a short start, as the bullpen was worked hard before he got called up. Now, I'm not really sure what the plan is, but it looked like he was going to take the 10th inning last night if it went to extras.

FYI, it has only been 7 days since he last pitched.  He last pitched on 4/20 and was scheduled to pitch for Rochester on 4/26 (off day Monday) before he was called up.

FWIW Provus said he'd have the 11th. Not sure if that was a pre-game question to Molitor or what.

If I had to guess, the Twins are planning to slot all three kids into the rotation, with Milone being pushed to long man or maybe 6th starter.

I'm not terribly against taking it slow with Meyer given his season last year, but I do think he needs to be playing, whether that's an option in the pen or starting in Rochester, I don't really care.

Trying to determine the logic in a Twins front office move is like Caitlan Jenner finding a restroom in North Carolina...difficult at times but not impossible.  I just hope they give Meyer at least 1 start.  His performances in Rochester deserve that.

I think, however, that they called him up when they did to use him out of the bullpen.  Else it makes no sense to force him to miss a start for no reason.

What debacle?  He tried catching on for one more year and decided he wanted to be with his family now and retired.

I meant losing John Hicks in the process for nothing, let alone signing the dude in the first place.  What problem, exactly, was being solved by signing an outfielder of that age?

Gah.  You made me start trying to think rationally about the roster decisions again!

when 1st signed, Twins OF was kinda stinking up the joint.   Nothing wrong with taking a shot with David Murphy.

Yeah, but it was a bunch of talented kids stinking up the joint.  That's what's expected of bringing up prospects, at least for a while.  Our bullpen has been stinking up the joint to the tune of 2 saves out of 9 opportunities, with only May being young and talented.  Let alone our catchers stinking up the joint...

They got a short start out of Milone the day after a 16-inning short start game and they still didn't bring in their freshest pitcher in Meyer.

Question:  Berrios vs. Meyer or Meyer vs. Berrios?

Answer:  Berrios AND Meyer.

Question: Ginger vs. Mary Ann or Mary Ann vs. Ginger?

Answer: Ginger AND Mary Ann.

Well, according to TR, they were still planning to promote David Murphy just a couple days ago.

And he missed that day to pitch on 4/25, despite being an obvious choice in a depleted pen. And now, who knows when he gets his next chance? He should get the call tonight in relief of Berrios if Berrios is forced to bail early, but if it's still a "winnable" game, I gotta think Molitor will look at another option first.

Off day tomorrow, now you're talking potentially 9 days without Meyer pitching.

Oh yeah... Well then I have no idea what they're doing.

Did Meyer just fall off the face of the earth? Is he MIA?? Anyone know what is going on?

Supposedly there is grainy footage of him walking from the clubhouse to the bullpen but I can't tell if it's real or a hoax.
