Uff Da

Didn't think of that

I've used a bunch this afternoon and I still got the game thread to go tonight.

Looks like my likes planning is similar to the front office OF Planning.

LoL. I'll be at a going away party tonight, so I won't feel bad about not liking posts I don't read......let them all know I love all their posts equally, like they were my children. Or something like that....

That's a mistake.

No sympathy.

good thing I'm on mute on this conference call, I don't think the IT leader speaking right now would have appreciated the timing of that laugh.

I've been a calm supporter of the front office for many years... I've said time and time again that they have more info than we could ever hope to have. I've said time and time again... that they have a room full of baseball professionals who do this for a living... not on the side like all of us.

Well said, Riverbrian. This is kind of where I've come around to as well.

There's "I don't know everything and will give you the benefit of the doubt," and then there's "what the **** are you even doing? This doesn't make any sense!"

League bowling tonight.

I read somewhere about this two handed technique, I'm thinking of giving it a try.

One hand around my neck in the 10th frame when I need a double just isn't quite doing it for me anymore.

How to tell if things aren't going well for you at work:

On a conference call, they have you put your phone on mute.

Trust me, I wish more people were on mute on large calls......you know the ones if you've worked in such an environment.....

The only thing that makes me feel better is this:

There has to be some strong words and finger pointing going on in the offices.

They have to know that this on them.

They were in it until the final weekend in 2015. It's on them... Not Us.

Yikes.     Give him a start already.       According to those pictures he's aging faster than the guy in Indy/Last Crusade who 'chose poorly' and drank from the wrong cup.

Kidding aside,     it seems reasonable,   if maybe a little generous,   to give the Twins the benefit of the doubt and wait to see what happens with Meyer,   the pen,   and the rotation after the burn from the Twins'    self-inflicted unscheduled doubleheader wears off.

On the other hand,   the Twins have earned just about every bit of negative reaction to the Meyer/bullpen news they've gotten.     The rotation's boycott of the strikeout continues,   the alleged embarrassment of bullpen riches from the amateur draft has yet to materialize,   and you could reasonably argue that a better rotation than the Twins' opening day one could be drawn from their bullpen and minor leagues (May, Berrios, Meyer, Duffey if he's headed for the pen,  and one of the wonderkids like Gonz or Stewart).

I'm willing to loan "likes" on this post to everyone who has been caught short.

Lucky!    Our bowling alley only serves beer.

I think you can blame people for mistakes, too.

I don't blame people for misfortune.  Accidents.  Plouffe getting hurt, I can't blame anyone for.  It happens.

But if you don't consider, ahead of time, what MIGHT happen when you tie your hands and feet  together and jump off a diving board into the deep end, well, that's a mistake, and I hold no sympathy for you.

Sure, but the Twins didn't really do that.

As I see it, the Twins made two decisions that some might have questioned - no FA relief in the bullpen and starting Buxton in CF.  I think they did (and do) have back ups for both those things not working.

With the bullpen, they had a bunch of strong AAA/AA arms - which we are now seeing get called up.  Somewhat surprisingly, the worst part of the pen has been May, Jepsen and Perkins which was supposed to be pretty good.  O'Rourke, Abad, Pressley and Tonkin, I think, have pitched better than most of us would've guessed.  Fien sucked.  But not locking up a bunch of FA is probably the right move for the pen, even if that means waiting part of the season for Chargois, Meyer, Burdi etc to come up.

On Buxton, the back up plan was probably either Rosario or Santana as a short term stop gap while he fixed his swing in AAA.  That's what is happening.  The Twins 40 man roster was full so the team didn't add another veteran OFer - I was ok with that and I think most were, although some weren't.  But as the angst for Murphy shows, the Twins have enough young OFers do play with.

What I don't think the Twins (or us) expected was the utter disappearance of our offense to start the season - a problem that was more problematic than the bullpen and not just Buxton's problem. I suspect that if the Twins were 9-9 (as baseruns suggests), Buxton would have more rope.

They have 11 hitters on the roster. They will have 12 hitters on the roster by Wednesday at the latest. Murphy as far as I can see if the only option.

Are you just trying to play semantics here or what?

Calling any of them but Mauer, Nunez, and maybe Sano - 'hitters' is quite a stretch.  Position players.

Hey Gun,

This is a great post

I hope you know that I appreciate you keeping your head as I'm losing mine today.

Here's the deal.

I don't like either of those plans that you suggest.

We might be 9-9 if the bullpen hadn't blown 5 games.  Yes, the offense is a problem, but at what point does that belief not also fall on our decision makers?

Our offensive struggles are bad for sure, but considering this team is pretty much the same team that was last in the AL in OBP and 13th in OPS last year, the offense not being good isn't a surprise.

And yeah, it's also not a surprise the bullpen is bad (though, for me, May's struggles are surprising).
