Denard Span

What are the odds of Denard Span signing with the Twins in the off season and would you like to see him come back?

After reading Span's message to Torii Hunter on twitter ("Go home and enjoy your fam, I got it from here ;)"), it got me thinking. With Hunter retiring, Buxton likely starting the season in AAA, the Twins needing a bona fide lead off hitter and outfielder, and Denard Span becoming a free agent in the off season, it seems like he would be a good fit, even if it's only for the short term.

If the Twins are serious about making a playoff push in 2016, I think they would be wise to at least consider this option.

They already have plenty of in house CF options in hicks, Buxton and Rosario. I'm not opposed to signing an OF but it should be an OF with a big bat.

Span has value, so pretty sure he isn't even thinking about the Twins.  Plus, the Twins have a couple young options whom I wouldn't want to retard their growth.

The full context of the tweet ("The game is gonna mis you big bro! Go home and enjoy your fam, I got it from here") makes it clear Span is talking about MLB/baseball as a whole, not any kind of Twins-specific torch-passing.

I think it would make happen only if Span was looking to regrow his value on a one year deal but 1) I don't think he'll have to do that and 2) it might be easier to rebuild his value in the NL.

But if he did want to come back here, that's fine.  He'd be good insurance although it would probably mean Arcia is done.  But the Twins could start with an outfield of Rosario/Hicks/Span w/Kepler and Buxton in AAA.  When Buxton is ready to come up, Span would be good insurance against a major regression by Rosario (like Danny Santana last year) or Hicks.  And if all 3 of those guys look good and Buxton is ready, then the Twins have some trade bait.

That's my exact thoughts. If Span needs a place to sign a one year, take a chance on me kind of deal, sure bring him on board. I agree with you that he probably doesn't need to prove his worth. If anything, he's probably looking for that last big payday before he returns a la Torii Hunter in 2020 :)

I love me some Denard Span, and the fan in me says heck ya, but I think I'd rather just see what we have with the younger guys.

I predict he gets 3/30ish from someone, and I predict he ends up worth it. I don't think those years will be spent in MN. IF they plan to deal Rosario and Hicks both, I would not be opposed.....but that seems unlikely.
