Sporting News Names Molitor Manager Of Year

The Sporting News named Paul Molitor their Ameriican League Manager of the Year for his work with the Twins in 2015. 

 

Houston's AJ Hinch was the runner up in the vote by Major League Managers.

Says a lot about the respect he must command around the league with all of the other very deserving candidates. I would have probably placed Molly second behind Banister.

 

And Terry Collins was the very deserving winner in the NL.  Here's Cuddy's comments about the keys to his managerial success:

"He’s been a true professional the whole year. The communication has been good; he’s been great with that,"  Cuddyer told Sporting News. "He’s letting us go out and play. He’s not a meetings guy. I wish they could have gotten an additional player quote on Molitor instead of Kevin Gorg.

Interesting results.  I only see 14 votes in the AL, and 13 in the NL, so 3 weren't polled or had their votes cast aside (perhaps after being fired?).  "Voting was conducted before the postseason began" -- not sure how early that could be.

 

Judging by the results, I wouldn't be surprised if Molitor got unanimous support from his AL Central counterparts, while Hinch and Bannister split the West vote.  They already divide the managers by AL/NL, it seems natural that they might self-divide a bit by division too.

Good for Molitor, I too thought Hinch would win, though Spy is probably right, the two candidates from the AL West probably split some votes.

1. Didn't know the sportingnews the was still a thing.

2. If finishing 7th out of 15th wins you an award, I guess more power to you! Just think what could have happened if Molitor learned how to manage a pen and/or a lineup!
