Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Cretin-Derham Hall's field house is now called The Joe Mauer Field House because of his (and his wife Maddie's) philanthropic efforts. Joe and Maddie Mauer were recognized for their philanthropic efforts when the St. Paul high school from which they graduated dedicated the fieldhouse in honor of the longtime Minnesota Twin.
sane Provisional Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I like Joe, so I am writing this only to pre-empt the comments that are coming soon. Who will be the first to ask, "Why don't they re-name the school in his honor, ie.,St. Joseph's High School?"

D. Hocking Verified Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I think with activity he has generated on some of the threads, one of the forums on this page should be named after him. (I also think it is an appropriate gesture).
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 We're lucky he chose baseball. Honestly, watch these football highlights and tell me he wouldn't have been a pro bowl NFL quarterback. Not being facetious.* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGHvoV2L9qU * I am not a scout, however
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Mauer would have likely gone pro in football, he was one of the top QB's recruited his year and would have started at Florida State pretty quickly. Good arm, good smarts etc. Anyways, good for Mauer, well deserved for sure.
notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 He would never have been durable enough to make it through three years of collegiate football.

Few long balls, and the ones he did try were just barely enough...10 yard line power. He always waited until he was behind the chains two downs before throwing. No leadership in the huddle.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I want to know what happens in an alternate reality where Joe goes into the NFL. Do the Vikings take him first overall in the draft?

Do the Vikings take him first overall in the draft? He would likely have come out the same season as Rodgers so we could really have a reason to hate him.

diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 As bad as the Vikings have been, the last time they drafted #1 overall, it was with someone else's pick.
