trust me if we could, the first thing we'd do is contract the cardinals or send the franchise to exile in winnepeg

where do they mine that pixie dust anyway? luckiest sonsabiches i've ever seen!

I grew up in the nw corner of illinois. All my childhood friends were Cub fans or Cardinal fans. I'm a child of the 80's so names like Dawson, Dunston, Ozzie are all relevant still, it wasnt a bad way to grow up at all,

Same.  Even as a Cards fan, I came home from school and flipped on WGN and watched Cubs games.

But we're in a Gopher football thread, so we should get back on topic.

Enjoyed the good natured ribbing.  Welcome to the site!

It’s crazy to think how much college football has changed since this thread began in 2015. It’s basically professional sports with NIL deals and the alignment of super conferences. All geography considerations being thrown out the window.

The sport is quickly transitioning to a 2 conference league. I’d guess in the next 5 years we’ll be down to 40 ish universities that can compete financially in the super conferences and the rest won’t matter. I have my doubts the Gophers can keep up in the future.

Gads. Gophers really found a way to lose to Northwestern.

What's even worse is that they got punched in the mouth by NW and, instead of responding positively, they collapsed in a heap and ended in a fetal position.

Disgusting and embarrassing!

The officials robbed us all of an all time great Minnesota sports loss. Quite honestly they might have saved PJF’s job. Just abysmal

This offense is brutal. Glad I only watched parts

I was looking forward to seeing if we could score a touchdown in the last 2 minutes.

And amid the commentary discussing the sideline during the review, i was trying to recall if a fair catch had been called.

Only watched the second half, but we did some things right. There is hope for the team.

I only passively follow the gophers. I can’t imagine how anyone is a fanatical gophers fan. Struggling at home against a bad Illinois team.

The game is on here. Has the gopher QB ever looked at a second receiver? Yikes.

Giving up 28 points in one half to a 2-7 team. A week after losing to another terrible team. When does the rowing get easier

I thought the defense was supposed to be ok. They’re horrendous

What is your expectation of the Gophers? Honest question. IMO, once every 2-3 years they can win 9 games and a bowl game, but they haven't been relevant for a conference championship in 60 years. That's what Fleck is providing along with an NFL prospect or 2 every year. This year is one of those 5-6 win seasons in between the occasional 9-10 win season.  We've gone through coach after coach, athletic director after athletic director. There shouldn't be any real expectations of Gophers football.

Not to give up fifty points to a terrible team seems reasonable.....

I think a reasonable request would have been a team that could occasionally win the Big 10 West. With USC and others joining next year, things change so that might not be reasonable (especially since there won't be a Big 10 West). But these last few years, asking the Gophers to win the West was realistic and they couldn't get it done. I want a program that can consistently compete with Iowa and Wisconsin. With all the money the Big 10 is pulling in for all of its teams, there were resources for the Gophers to step back into some relevance. I don't expect them to be Ohio State but, under Fleck, they've finished in the top 25 once. (Mason managed it twice, and I don't think they've finished in the top 25 other than those three years since before I was born. Could be wrong). They should be able to be better than that.

I literally have no idea what to think of this guy but it sounds like he can throw the ball better than Kaliakmanis. https://www.thedailygopher.com/2023/12/3/23985662/new-hampshire-qb-max-brosmer-to-transfer-to-minnesota

Supposedly if a university wants a top QB transfer like McCord formerly of Ohio State, it's going to take $2-3 million minimum. The Gophers shopped at $5 and Below and will get similar results.

What's going on with Ohio State? Why are all these guys leaving?
