OK... I guess I should go grab a shopping cart and start pushing it around and try to decide if I should buy the 15% whatever hamburger or the 5%.

If, grilling 80/20 and never the 5%, EVER!

smoke and mirrors only last so long.  In the end, it's about stuff, and our pitchers don't have it.  And they haven't for the last 4+ seasons. Last in the AL in Ks and BAA is bound to get you.

Yeah but... 51 runs in 35 and two thirds innings.

In comparison to our smoke and mirrors.

That would make the margin of error window bigger then the glass at our new Vikings football stadium.

remember when some were talking about how our remaining schedule actually wasn't that hard (which wasn't true) and their reasoning was that we got to play so many carpy teams in our division?  Yeah, about that.

my son got a summer job with a construction crew, working as one of those guys you see beside the road.  He got fired for stealing on the job.  I didn't want to believe it, but when I went by his apartment to talk to him about it, all the signs were there.

It's almost like the entire pitching staff is saying in unison.

All you got us was Jepsen at the trade deadline. I'm throwing nothing but meatballs then.

Yesterday...

I bailed!!!

The Good Ship Twins Baseball was sinking and I was a-bailin.

I guess we made our hay while we could. And of course someone needs to bale it.

Thanks for doin' the lion's share! (weird, i wouldn't think lions would share... at least with non-lions)

While batters say we're swingin' nothin' but spaghetti...

But i'll still chock it up to coincidence. Or the opposition. Yeah, i'll blame them. What makes them think they're better than us?

As opposed to when they didn't?

Yesterday Mrs Chief was trying on a dress.  She looked in the mirror and said "I look fat in this dress."

I felt bad, and thought I should say something complimentary to cheer her up.

"Well honey, that might be, but your eyesight is as sharp as ever!"

Woof, it's one thing for Joe Mauer to be a hole in the lineup; now, he's looking like the DDPH. Designated Double-Play Hitter. How many of these inning-killing double plays has Mauer hit into lately? Seems like a dozen or so in the last few games.

Don't be ridiculous.

The Twins haven't had a dozen baserunners.

I'm sure there is some statistical evidence to the contrary in some form or another but I still contend there was a stretch this year when the starting pitching kept us close enough to get into playoff contention.

Days like this it's best to watch the game on TV at home. That way, your wife can't change the locks while you're away.

I said it before, and still believe it...

among all the problems facing the Twins, Mauer is problem number 1.

He's going to be in the lineup, earning superstar money.  They need at least above average production, including some power, or I can't see them improving much.

Unfortunately, I don't have much faith in seeing a .900 OPS Mauer again.  You can't be one when you can't pull the ball with authority.

DickJack:  "Kluber's just had it all goin'."

It is amazing how many pitchers pitch their best against the Twins lately.

They didn't just become last in Ks and so low in BAA though, did they? Be hard to drop so far in yearly stats like those in a week (a week ago being when we still had the 2nd WC spot)?

Remember, we had one month with a winning record.

I don't see how anyone can watch this team and think they didn't give up.

Right about the time it was becoming apparant the front office was going to give up.

This looks like the episode of South Park where all the kids are intentionally trying to lose their baseball games so they don't have to advance to the playoffs and play more baseball. Only difference is we don't have Randy Marsh picking fights every game to give us something to look forward to.

Sadly true. Joe Mauer post concussion just isn't the same hitter. Even with the occasional pop, he appears to have lost the essential quick reactions that made him a really dangerous hitter with great zone coverage. His whiff rate has skyrocketed, and he now routinely tops easy grounders to second base, making tons of easy outs and double plays.

Certainly this calls for swapping Mauer with Eddie Rosario in the lineup. Eddie isn't the high-avg hitter Joe used to be, but he doesn't ground out to second with such nauseating regularity, and Eddie's got a lot more power in his bat. Aside from that change, I can't wait to see Max Kepler come up in September and have a few at-bats in Mauer's place.

The transition to the future Twins must continue. Putting it off just looks more ridiculous all the time.

Personally, I'd prefer to smoke something else and then eat the ribs and jalapeños, but different strokes for different folks.
