You're the GM: deadline moves

Clippard improves the Twin's 2015 bullpen immensely (or would have). Gonsalves won't be a contributor with the Twins until 2017 or 2018, if ever. I wonder if Ryan made Oakland any offers or if he sat that one out.

Getting Kimbrel from San Diego would mean either moving Perkins to another team or to another role other than closer. I don't think Perkins would be to pleased moving out of the closer roll and to the 8th inning set up spot because he kind of took an extension discount to stay here and to close.

No it wouldnt. Kimbrel would be an 8th inning guy. The Twins would then effectively have a 7 inning game. That would take pressure off both the rotation and bullpen

I'm basically a tire kicker. I'm sitting here at my phone, waiting to see if anyone calls about my players. Besides Perkins and Dozier, no one is asking for anything else.

So, I sign a couple of minor league free agents, monitor my guys at AAA and AA.

I'm going to throw some names on the waiver wire. I will post a couple of names right away (Pelfrey, Nunez) and see if someone bites. Still gives me the option of floating them out there again and just letting them go. I'm hoping the Braves throw out A.J. But, again, I may have wasted my wait as others could claim him, too. The evils of having a winning record. I can't just claim guys at random.

I don't need to upgrade the rotation.

My infield is really set. Just have to say "Escobar" instead of whomever, although I keep thinking I should see what Polanco can do for a dozen games. But why change now. If someone is hurt, maybe.

Outfield is a mess. Would love to have Arcia in themix, but maybe good for him to be down on the farm. Cuts his service time, and as long as Sano is doing something...I have a full outfield, although do want to see what Buxton can do out there in center. He'll get a shot again come September.

What would the Braves take tomorrow for A.J. Would he actually bring more to the mix than Fryer. Dang concussions. First Mauer, than Pinto. Didn't we used to have Wilson Ramos around...what did we get for him? Of course everyone is looking for a catcher. Hey, maybe I will trade forA.J. and then put Suzuki on the waiver wire and let him walk to any team that claims him. I mean, do I really need to have him on the roster in 2016. Go after some free agent, any free agent. Or maybe A.J. will really like it here, and he looks like someone happy to be a backup, so....

JULY GOALS

Trade for A.J.

AUGUST

Claim any live arms that show up on waivers.

Put Pelfrey, Nunez, Suzuki, Fien, Boyer, Duensing thru waivers and see who claims them. I mean, the guys in the minors can't be any worse, and probably better. I mean, why do we even have them in our system and giving them innings if we don't think they have potential to be on the major league roster not only this year, but next!?

Hope we can keep the team about .500 and walk the stadium with a big grin on my face as all these fans pay full-price for their tickets, keep the concessions busy, and start buying shirts again. Maybe I'll have one made with my name on them! Probably be pretty popular as everyone thinks they are the general manager anyways!

1. Look to fix the catching problem for 2016 and 2017. You don't want to punt 2015. But odds are, you're not going to get 2014 Suzuki back next year. And there's no fix that gives you any more hope than the "Anything can happen in the playoffs" line that probably won't be true. Susac is my catcher on my Shadow Draft Twins, so I'd be happy to bring him in. I'd take a shot on Mike Zunino if the Mariners would give him up cheaper than the Giants Susac. LuCroy is a great player, but what will he be as a 31-year-old in 2017?

2. Trade Pelfrey or Millone. My asking price isn't excessive, because I want to put May back into the rotation.

3. Whether or not I make a trade for a reliever, it seems like the upside of this team is winning the wild card game. I'd rather wait and fix the bullpen in the offseason when it will be more cost effective.

4. With that said, this is the more interesting bullpen question to me. Burdi, Cederoth, Clay, Reed, Curtiss, Bard, Chargois, Melotakis, Jones. Boer. Summers. So we've invested how much in resources in college relievers over the past four drafts and what exactly do we have to show for it? Whose head needs to roll for that?

5. I wouldn't mind playing the same game as #1, sub in an upside shortstop for catcher. I'm just less certain of names I'd target who would be reasonably priced.

I too second Gonsalves > than Meisner

Meisner is more like Chih- Wei Hu

MR Hu.

I would never trade 5 guys for Tulo, thats just silly, take Tulo out of Coors and he looks like Michael Cuddyer playing SS as soon as next year.

I'd call the Tribe and ask what it would take to get dominate late inning reliver (maybe 7th if not 8th inning)

Jeff Manship

Yes, that Jeff Manship

If they'd be ok with Caleb Thielbar and maybe Alex Meyer

or  a Pat Dean and Zach Jones type of a deal   i'd do that trade in a minute.

May cannot pitch the 7th or 8th inning alone.

1) we need an 8th inning type of reliever than won't mortgage the future too much

2)  we need a catcher to help out Fryer and Suzuki

Thats it....

Sano is the "added bat"  w/ maybe X Buxt adding some life in Sept.

And Erv Santana is the "added starter"

To throw out a young shortstop name, I guess maybe I'd ask Boston about Deven Marrero. He's blocked by a younger shortstop and at the very least could be a Jack Wilson/Adam Everett type of asset,

It's a fair point. This is why IMO a guy like Clippard, who has proven himself over and over, is probably so much more valuable to the Twins right now than than a minor league A ball pitcher—any A ball pitcher, starter or reliever. Especially in a pennant race.

Gonsalves and Meisner were comped in a June BP chat. Meisner the better upside and more risk. Both are 20. Both made great strides this year. Both moved from low A to high A.

You don't want to trade for Tulo, but you want to send multiple guys to Cleveland for Jeff Manship??

I agree with this, Segura is better than anything the Twins have right now at short stop and he is just 25 years old. We don't need a short stop that hits home runs, we need a short stop that moves runners over and gets on base, doesn't make bad throwing errors, reaches most of the balls in play that he should and one that doesn't strike out so much as the current 1 and two utility guys do. IF Escobar or Nunez were better than Santana every day they would be playing over him. To me Tulowitzki would be a great get but Twins would likely have to overpay anything over and above what they might be willing to do to get the conversation started. Twins are not really a team that takes on salary dump from other teams either. Tulowitzki is still the face of the franchise of the Rockies, I could see the Yankees overpaying for him and really sealing up that division if he were truly avaiable. I think Segura would help the Twins in more ways measurable than just his at bats, and all, his experience level is good for a shorts stop and again he is only 25 years old, he doesn't make the stupid plays or the bad throws.

Segura is WORSE than what the Twins have right now--Escobar. Esco has a better OPS, and with more playing time would close the gap on average and OBP, as he hits the ball hard far more often than Segura. He also has a better track record defensively than Segura too. Why Esco's not starting over DanSan is a mystery only Molitor can explain.

I feel like if this team is going to do anything unexpected, it'll be because Dozier, Sano, Buxton and co. lead them there.

-Trade for a bullpen arm.

-Trade for AJ. Neither should cost major prospects.

-Put Pelfrey in the pen (or trade him.) Either put May back or call up Berrios.

-Send Santana down for Arcia (I cannot believe this hasn't happened yet.)

Rockies will likely spin Jose Reyes to someone else since they have the young short stop that is one of there best prospects. Anyone think we can move Kyle Gibson and Alex Meyer along with 1st baseman Max Kepler  for a short stop like Reyes. Rockies are still likely looking for pitching that fits Coors Field.

Both Gibson a sinker baller and Alex Meyer a power arm profile to the types of controllable arms tha the Rockies may be looking for to spin Reyes. Twins will likely not give up both pitchers but this would be someone you could still look to call and have talks with at least. Rockies will likely be fielding calls from the Padres and many teams in hopes of getting Reyes.

Gibson, Meyer and Kepler for Reyes? Good god no. I wouldn't trade any one of them for him, much less all 3. I'm not opposed to the idea, but given his salary, he shouldn't require a massive haul. Maybe Meyer for him straight up.

I'll give you credit, you never offer short in your trade proposals.

I would gladly give up Meyer for anyone that could help this club in 2015

Good god, man. That's more than the Rockies got for Tulo (or at least comparable).

Considering Reyes' contract, my initial offer would be a half full box of 2006 Nick Punto bobbleheads. I *might* move up a bit from that point in negotiations but not far.

For 2015, the Twins need to improve their bullpen above anything else. I liked getting Clippard and would welcome Soria. Frankie Rodriguez would be an okay get. Getting AJ for the rest of the season would be fine. Don't trade for a shortstop.

They need a C, SS, and RPer (or 3) now and in the future. RPing could be handled in the off season but looking at the C and SS FA market they won't be able to upgrade there. I'm fine with trading prospects for players to fill holes if they aren't just rentals. While they cost more they can help now and in the future until the farm produces a replacement.
