diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 yeah, org needs catching help. Any interesting names still on the board?
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 There were quite a few catchers that went. Normally the Twins do take a catcher in the top 10, but they didn't fall into that run in the 5th or 6th.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Quite a few interesting HS names available here. Kind of hope the Twins grab a few of them and hopefully get one or two signed. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/129634376/gems-bound-to-be-unearthed-on-draft-day-3 Not much in terms of catching help. Most are pitchers and middle infielders.
Dman Verified Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 And surprise they start with a catcher.

Dman Verified Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I am not huge on first baseman for picks as they are usually slow with one or two tools and you can convert other positions to First base so I guess I don't understand why there are three picks for first baseman.
ryandw34 Verified Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I believe Wiel hit a home run off of Tyler Jay in Monday's super regional game if I remember correctly.

They are org filler at this point, so not too concerned. If the bat can play up, they'll get a job somewhere, even if it's a trade to another team, so I don't necessarily mind.
CwK Provisional Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I believe Wiel hit a home run off of Tyler Jay in Monday's super regional game if I remember correctly. There's your answer, Dman.
Dman Verified Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 There's your answer, Dman. Yep I guess they think so highly of Jay that they will draft anyone who has hit a home run off of him. I hear that is select club like 3 or 4 guys.
Nick Nelson Site Manager Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Picks for the Twins so far today: 11: Kerby Camacho, C, Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy in Puerto Rico12: Alexander Wiel, 1B, Vanderbilt University13. Cody Stashak, RHP, St. John's University Camacho is the Twins' second pick out of Beltran Academy, following 7th-round LHP Jovani Moran. Wiel hit cleanup in the Vandy lineup behind No. 1 overall pick Dansby Swanson. Had 14 HR, 16 doubles and 65 RBI in 66 games this year. Hrbowski 1

They love getting good college hitters from decent baseball schools.

Well, if you look at that video of 8th rounder Kolten Kendrick taking batting practice and hitting balls into/over trees in the outfield, you'll understand why the Twins drafted that guy. The other 1B, well everyone explained those guys already. You never know though. Some of these guys might turn out to be something.

USMCTwin Verified Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Looks like Murray made 15 starts at catcher, 11 in the outfield and 29 at designated hitter this year according to GT website.
Hrbowski Verified Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Murray has pretty good pop, and will likely stay behind the plate. I like that pick.
Nick Nelson Site Manager Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Of note: 12th-rounder Alexander (Zander) Wiel homered off Tyler Jay in the Illinois/Vandy game earlier this week.

maxisagod Verified Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Okay, first of all the Twins Daily Organization Chart needs to be updated. Wasn't before or after spring training. I understand organizational depth... but do the Twins need that many corners for the lower minors? Jack Barrie, Ruar Verkerk, Lewin Diaz, Roni Tapia off the top of my head... Now Travis Blankenhorn, Trey Cabbage, Kolton Kendrick, Alexander Wiel.... Even if Amaurys Minier spend all year in the outfield that's a lot already for two teams.

How many base clogging first baseman do we need. Try and get guys who can hit and run. Certainly I can understand getting one really good one but three. A majority of the teams haven't even drafted a 1st baseman yet and we are the only team who has drafted three. I am no scout and I know nothing about these guys they might be very good and move pretty well I have no idea but typically if you are a first baseman you are slow and have some power and hopefully a decent hit tool. Maybe these guys can play outfield I just find it odd that you focus early and often at first base. No one else seems to be.

Diaz and Tapia haven't played in GCL yet and then they draft high school guys Blankenhorn, Cabbage, and Kendrick. Alexander Wiel seems like the only one ready for Elizabethan.
