MLB thinks to think he won't be difficult to sign - at the worst he could end up a draft and follow, if that still exists.

Logan Lombana is a great kid. Seen him play with or against my kids from little league through high school. Very good athlete. Was also one of the best high school soccer goalies in Northern California.

I was watching the Video of Kerby Camacho (great name baseball name BTW!) and really liked his left handed swing.  His RH swing looked a little slow.  Do teams ever have players quit switch hitting and go to one side or the other permanently?  Not that I am a scout nor do I claim to be able to differentiate the difference between a 1st round talent and a 30th round talent from a video, but he seems have a quick throwing motion while catching and a silky smooth left handed swing.  I like it.

Tristan Pompey's video actually looks very intriguing, and he's not so "little", @ 6'4", two inches taller than Dalton. Is he a big-time college commit and the Twins are going to kick the signability tires?

Michigan commit Jonathan Engleman looks like he has a man-sized body at age 18, and looks pretty good in his video. Despite being 6'4" and 210#s, he ran a 6.75 60 yard run. Thoughts on his prospect status/signability?

I like the strategy - they have already indicated they will probably sign fewer draftees than in previous years.  Why not take a few fliers and see that happens?

I think they didn't draft these guys earlier because of the way you have to manage your draft pool money under the current system.  If you draft a guy Rounds 1-10 and can't get them signed, you lose the money assigned to that draft slot.  Better to draft someone you think you can sign.  After Round 10 you can overpay with the savings from earlier rounds.  If you don't sign the guy you don't lose any draft pool money.

Any bonus over 100K after the 10th round gets added to the draft pool.  So if you sign a guy in the 25th rd for 1.1M, 1M counts against your draft pool meaning you'd have to have saved close 1M in your first 10 rounds.

 

Also if a team hits five percent over their bonus pool they will have to forfeit a future first round pick in addition to a 75% tax on the overage amount. If they are over but not at five percent over, they would just have to pay the 75% tax.
