Twins Trades That Fell Through

It's a fun thing to speculate, and personally I hope at least one of the guys they missed out on was a CF candidate (or at least a defensive whiz in the OF somewhere), but it's probably better for our collective piece of mind that the fans don't know how close the Twins were to getting Brandon Moss to play LF, or getting a pitcher that would push Meyer and May even further away from the rotation...

I would be very surprised if Blackmon, Fowler or Saunders didn't draw any interest from TR.

Then I saw there have been like 75 MLBers traded this offseason and like another 125 MiLBers... and I gave up.

The rumor contained the names of two players who can be ruled out.  Come on, they're practically doing your homework for you!

Blackmon hasn't been traded yet.

Saunders was on the market for awhile and was never even rumored for the Twins, I don't think.  (And was ultimately dealt fairly cheaply -- I have to think if we had wanted him, we could have made something work.)

Fowler is interesting, although most observers think he would be better suited for a corner.

My first inclination was Dexter Fowler. I'd assume they're shopping the CF market for someone who could either be a stop gap or flex to a corner spot in the coming years. That list is pretty short - Fowler would have been a good fit.

Now the questions is, who was the backup plan(s) and are they still shopping?

I wonder if there was ever mutual interest between the Twins and Cardinals regarding Peter Bourjos or if it was all in our heads that such a trade would make sense for both teams.

It's hard to say who is still out there at this point - Victorino perhaps, Charlie Blackmon perhaps, I guess for the right offer just about anyone could be acquired, though I wouldn't hold my breath for Juan Lagares, Andrew McCutcheon, or Adam Jones to name a few....

I heard that the Twins were talking to Billy Beane on John Donaldson. And then the Dodgers on Matt Kemp. And then they wanted. And then Dee Gordon. Then Drew Butera, but the Twins couldn't think of anyone for future considerations. And the Rock Porcello. And finally they got stomped for Justin Upton.

Victorino would have made a ton of sense for the Twins before they signed Torii (as several other outfielders would have...grrrr) but I don't think he makes sense now - hasn't played CF since leaving Philly several years ago, right?

Yeah - that's true. I mentioned him just because he was rumored to be available and hasn't been traded yet. There aren't really many guys left in that category, so if the Twins were targeting a CF it would probably have to be a guy that hasn't been mentioned yet in rumors.

How about Juan Lagares, Carlos Gomez, Mike Trout, Adam Jones, or Andrew McCutchen? They would be pretty decent upgrades... har-dee-har-har.

Any reason why you lump Lagares with the others? Seems to me that there is an obvious jump in talent/production compared to others. I don't see him as much of an upgrade.

defense only - he's considered to be one of the best CF'ers in baseball defensively. His offense, not so much.

I was really hoping they would add Kemp. That made sense on a ton of fronts.  I'm not quite sure how the other 4 guys in the deal weigh out to what the Twins would give/receive, but I'd have definitely been in on that.
