Hope that he is the next Cal Ripken Jr, but totally disappointed by the pick...

Really? What need should have been filled? Alternatively, who was the BPA?

Sure if you think he's a 4 WAR player. I see a guy that couldn't stick at short (over Hanley of all shortstops, which Nick supposedly will do) and that can't hit. Of all the tools, speed is not as valuable as hitting or hitting for power.

He wasn't competing with Hanley for the SS job. Hanley was set as the starter there. He was competing for a job at 2B and the Dodgers weren't going to move Hanley around all season if Gordon didn't win the job.

but I don't think Dee Gordon will hit much. I think Nick Gordon will hit plenty.

I think that the Twins have a comparable player already in their system: Engelb Vielma. I'd probably argue that Vielma's 3 good tools (the same with Gordon's) Defense, Arm, Speed are ahead of Gordon's, but he is 2 years older or so. Nobody had Vielma in the top 10 Twins' prospect lists this off-season, but I suspect that many will have Gordon, sight unseen.

Vielma is not comparable at all to Nick Gordon.

How? Please enlighten me.

Other than size, country of origin, language and way they got into the organization

My guess is that it has something to do with the fact that Vielma can't hit or steal bases or do many things one expects out of a baseball player.

no power and a poor hit tool. He isn't going to hit enough at any level. He would be more comparable to Dee Gordon although not even that good.

Nick sounds great on phone...really bright sounding

Good kid, too. Like Buxton. Those two should make a fine pair in this lineup.

I can understand people wanting Jackson. And, I think Seattle is making the right move.....

Dad mandated natural righty to switch hit...

Red Alert!

J/k. Looks like a great pick, and good vibe off the phone interview on Fox. Sounds like a sharp kid, and BP with a dad who pitched well for over 20 years in MLB (despite standing five feet, nine inches) probably dials up your skills at the plate in a hurry.

Looks like a great pick.

You are right. Let us stop bickering and let it play out. Time will tell. In 5 years you guys can duke it out using wAR or whatever you use to examine players.

Toussaint seems to be really falling at this point...

The DBacks own the draft. Shipley was a great pick last year and Touki is a great one this year.

I love a good debate, I just like them to be respectful.....though I am not w/o blame at times....

Man, it would've been cool for the Royals to draft Zimmer so the brothers could play together.......oh well, they went with a college reliever that will probably flame out, good for us

Derek Hill does not look excited to be drafted by Detroit. Though I can't say I blame him. "Congrats, kid! You were just picked in the first round of the draft, and your reward is ....a one way ticket to a postapocalyptic hellhole!"

$2 million will help, I suppose.

Dee Gordon at the 1/3 point of the season is playing at 4 fWAR level as we speak.

As I said before the draft, I think the Twins missed on Jackson- I'm a BPA guy first & always, those of us that agree on that could be right or wrong, time will tell (and perhaps you and I are in agreement on that?). Once the top 3 pitchers were gone, what else could the Twins have done? Maybe reached for Touki or Newcomb? There must be reasons they fell to the middle of the first round. Having said that, it really isn't realistic to expect that every position player the Twins draft in the first round is going to be the next Byron Buxton at his position.

If we get a guy that projects to be much better than Dee Gordon in the infield, potentially playing at an All Star level in 3-4 years or so, I'd consider ourselves quite fortunate.
