Goin will no doubt mention this to Gardy, who will call him a stat nerd while giving him a wedgie...

I'm pretty sure nearly every manager in the game does the same thing in that situation. Down two, 9th inning, zero outs with basically a 9th hitter at the plate. Really a no brainer to be honest.

1. Hermann sucks at hitting.

Apparently he sucks at bunting just as much, if not more.

2. It allows you to tie the game with one single if he does pull it off. Of course he didn't....

Remember when they could run the bases and bunt? Those were the days.

Replay is gonna be close. Either way, nice hustle play by the A's that's hard to picture the Twins executing properly.

Instant replay sucks. Another Bud Selig idea that screws up the game.

1. I agree nearly every manager will do the same thing.

2. Conventional wisdom doesn't make it the correct decision.

3. I'm still fairly sure that going from 1st/2nd no out to 2nd/3rd one out makes it LESS likely that you'll score more than one run in an inning (although it makes it slightly more likely you'll score one run)

The puzzling 'Jim Johnson, pitch-to-contact closer' era seems to be winding down...

But he racks up so many saves!!!

They lamed out and said there wasn't enough evidence to overturn or confirm the call... so it stands.

You aren't factoring in that Hermann is a replacement level (or worse) hitter.
