The moves listed below are not moves I would WANT to do, and I know the returns on some of my moves will never happen. However in a game of "What Would You Do" working with the assumption Ownership is looking to slash payroll, and then you have to look at the best way to rebuild here ae my moves...
The No Brainers...
I dont like these first 2, but if the name of the game is payroll reduction then the guys at the top have to go, and they should provide quality returns.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but have the Pohlad's shared the names of the minority owners yet?
If not why hasn't that information been shared?
Has MLB not yet approved the sale and they are waiting on that?
If MLB has approved the sale, what is the point of NOT sharing new owners?
With the hatred and vitriol towards the Pohlads (and rightfully so), wouldn't competent ownership be excited about sharing details of the new investors? Help distract from the stench of
The Twins' season has concluded, but do you need your next baseball fix over the long winter?
Fans who follow the Twins know the thrill of building a team from the ground up — from scouting promising talent to developing all-stars. But what if you could experience that same excitement firsthand, managing every detail of your own franchise? That’s where Franchise Ball steps up to the plate. It’s a free online baseball simulation game that lets you become the general manager of your own team,
The Twins are in search of a new manager. Regardless of whom they pick, I'm glad they are interviewing a bunch of people. Hopefully most of them, in the process of explaining how they'd run things in the dugout and in the clubhouse, will give their frank view of "what's wrong with the Twins at present?"
I wish they had done a similar interviewing process when they elevated Zoll to the (meaningless) GM title on the nameplate on his desk, instead of apparently reflexively hiring from withi
There are many rumors going around about the Twins managerial search right now. Will they go with a previous Twins coach like Shelton? Will they go back to the Twin’s Way and look to Punto? Will they go outside the org and get a fresh view with someone like Vázquez? With all these options and more, one thing that should be on Falvey’s mind around this is that the Twins are in some fairly poor company regarding diversity in their Manager and General Managers. Here are some comps:
Current
Breaking news from MLB Trade Rumors. The Yankees have granted the Twins permission to speak with James Rowson about their managerial vacancy. The news originally was attributed to the New York Post baseball reporters. They also report that the Twins have considered Derek Shelton and Ramon Vasquez as potential candidates.
I frankly like all three possibilities, although I would lean more towards Shelton due to his managerial experience. What you guys think?
Here is my initial take on the upcoming Twins offseason. It would be nice to have the Twins Daily blueprint available to edit and post, I have one I can use still for here so I will do the best with what I got. The Twins will be on a limited budget next season, and they are bringing up several rookies next year. We need to keep some veterans to show the rookies how it works in the majors.
Here are my transactions.
1. Sign Ryan to a 4 year 58 million contract. front load it. 1
I haven't written a blog for a long time. But I have an observation, & that's all it is an observation. My observation is how rich the Latin heritage is in modern MLB. Players like Roberto Clemente, Luiz Tiant & Orlando Cepeda quickly come to mind. Twins' early successful years were greatly influenced by players like Rod Carew, Tony Oliva, Camilo Pascual, Zoilo Versalles & Caezar Tovar, whom I loved to watch growing up.
Throughout the years, we've had good Latin American player
Would it be exaggerating to call 2025 the most frustrating finish to a season in Twins history? I am a bit too young to remember those terrible late 90s seasons. But I do remember 2011 and the death of that competitive window was devastating especially with how horrible the team was in the season’s final days. That team went 22-51 after the all-star break, a win percentage of .301, and was the worst second half since the Senators moved to Minnesota.
The 2025 team went 23-43, a .348
How about a sports movie where a bunch of misfits are put together on one team and they somehow come together to win it all? *Yawn!* We've seen that already at least a dozen times.
What if they don't band together for the love of the game or each other, but out of pure spite for their money-grubbing boss?
Now you have something. Major League!
Major League came out in 1989, which is right in the golden era of baseball movies. It doesn't hang its hat on nostalgia or pure love of ba
As a lecturer on river cruise ships I often tell stories of Mark Twain, His life was filled with amazing adventures, failures, and people. Seldom do we associate him with sports but as you can read in the newspaper account copied here - Mark Twain, while not an athlete, still had a chance to participate in the game with an umpiring experience.
Add to that his Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court where he wrote: "In Mark Twain’s “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court,” a time-tr
Derek Falvey and Thad Levine were brought on board to head the Twins front office in late 2016. We have nearly a decade of drafts to look at now. What might have happened under other leadership?
I took a look at the first rounders picked by the Twins 2017-25 and then checked which player was taken next. That's hardly an infallible way to look at it, but resembles a kind of "crowd sourcing" among the dozen or so other GMs in the majors during the same era as to how it might have gone had
As the Twins' season sputters to a merciful end, it seems only fitting to focus on our neighbors, the Milwaukee Brewers, who are dominating the league. I mean, what's not to love? They're named for a profession that brings many of us much joy. The very likable Christian Yelich has returned to form. Arguably their most exciting player may be a Brewer, but he's barely old enough to have a beer. Their second in the league in both steals and hits and their starting rotation is impressive.
So,
Well, this season's over except for the crying (like after last night), so a young(ish) man's thoughts turn to next season. What should that Opening Day roster look like? Here's my take. Couple of rules - you have to use guys we now have or, if you put in a trade or FA placeholder you have to identify who will be traded and you have to assume that the FA will be $8m a year or less. No signing Pete Alonso or William Contreras to fill the 1B or C hole. That's just a fantasy. Also, take out the ide
Yesterday was a rough day for me. I have been fighting cancer for 5 years and this spring it had metastasized. I continue to fight every day. Up at 4:30 to do my stretch, strength and balance work followed by a 5 mile run. With that fight I feel pretty good and have a high energy level in spite of all the meds. Baseball helps keep me going. There are still many more games ahead of me and they matter so much more than a championship. That final Twins trade of Varland set off a trigger in me. We h
The Minnesota Twins gutted the 2025 iteration of the team at the trade deadline, and dumped a lot of salary for the latter end of 2025, and in the immediate seasons to come. As of 8/1/2025, the Twins have $48,892,857 dollars on their payroll for next season. That comes in the form of Byron Buxton, Pablo Lopez, and Justin Topa; who I frequently forget is on the roster. Oh, and that also includes another $10 million from the ghost of Carlos Correa. Every other player that is currently on the roste
Regular readers here will recall that I enjoy the computer game Out Of The Park. Since it's a game and I'm not hurting anyone, I abuse some of its features terribly. In particular, there is often no sense of there being 24 hours in a day. So, as GM in the game, my typical style is to do a top-to-bottom assessment of every level of my franchise's farm system and 40-man on the first day of the off-season, then I use the trading interface to sell off every questionable asset that has trade value
There was a time, not so long ago, that the Minnesota Twins fanbase knew only one outcome. For close to two decades, no amount of momentum or excellence could counter the brick wall that awaited them in the postseason.
18 consecutive times, the Twins threw all they had at that wall. They chipped, scraped, clawed, and flung themselves at it. In so many moments, it looked like they were through. But in the end, they were left unable to breach it. And in the aftermath, we were left scarred by
There are reports out today that Houston is looking at trading for Correa with Paredes likely out for an extended period and perhaps for the season. Who knows if this is true, but what would/could we get for Correa? Should we do a deal?
I would consider doing this IF we can get a solid prospect in return, something like a top 15-25 in the Houston system. According to MLB.com, that would mean a 40 FV guy like Jose Fluery, Caden Powell, or James Hicks. Probably a good future reliever or avera
Of course there is no indication that Correa would waive his No Trade, the Yankee fan base may not like him, and Spencer Jones COULD be Joey Gallo 2.0, BUT...
How much sense would a Correa for Jones move make.
As this is typed Volpe again had a throwing error costing 2 runs in the 1st. Yanks desperately want to upgrade at SS.
Positionally it is a perfect fit.
Financially it is a perfect fit. Twins want to slash salary, and while the Yanks dont WANT to add salary they can aff

The phrase “pitching pipeline” has been a phrase uttered frequently on Twins Daily. A search reveals that the first mention of that exact phrase occurred in 2015, and the term was lighted used through 2021 when we notably had the first article that mentioned it, Seth Stohs’ Building a Pitching Pipeline. The article makes the classic comparison to what Cleveland had going in their starting rotati
Even the most optimistic of Twins fans now has to realize it is time to sell.
Another day and another loss to another last place team. Out of the break the Twins had a chance to make a statement with 6 of first 9 games against last place teams the Rockies and the Nationals. They did not disappoint. From making a statement anyways, just not the statement we were hoping for.
Becoming the first team to lose a series ALL YEAR to the Rockies, and then losing a 3 game series 2-1 at home aga
As we go through the annual Trade Deadline Speculation-Fest, we are all aquiver about the haul we might receive for Duran, Jax, Ryan, etc. That's understandable, they should fetch handsome returns if traded.
However, to me, I wonder if we're asking the most important question -- what are our playoff chances in 2026?
As this is written, Baseball Reference gives us an 8.6 percent chance of making this year's playoffs. I'm not giving up on this year's team but the objective part of me re
On Friday night, Mendez went 3-for-5 with his third Saints homer. He scored three runs and drove in four runners. In 14 games with the Saints, he's hitting .382/.485/.564 (1.049).
I am not a follower of Donald Trump. I have participated in several no kings rallies and am disgusted with what he and his followers have done to our country and the world. I would like to know what most Brazilians feel about the United States now and about the folks our citizens have elected to represent us.
