If there is NOT interest in Dom Smith on the Twins part, there SHOULD be.
With Lewis to start the season on the IL, this means Brooks Lee will... oops maybe not... I mean Miranda will most likely start out at 3B.
Our injury history shows we will need depth.
Hopefully Lewis can overcome the latest lower body injury miss little time and play at a high level the rest of the year. Broosk Lee has a known chronic back issue, an dhas missed time every year because of it. He should be use
Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! March Madness is here. While March Madness isn't as wonderful as watching the Minnesota Twins compete in baseball games, the rituals of a college basketball tournament signal that baseball is near.
Countless players on the Minnesota Twins, past and present, played college baseball. Many of those schools also have a basketball team, and some of those basketball teams are competing in th
Forgive me baseball movie fans, for I may have sinned. I've gone my whole life, until tonight, without watching the 1994 remake of "Angels in the Outfield." I confess. I've avoided it for years because I feared the over-the-top cheesiness that I was sure would make it too much to stomach. I wasn't entirely wrong, but not completely right, either. Fun fact: the owner of the Angels in the film, Hank Murphy, is a cowboy-hat wearing, straight-talking fella that's loosly based on the real-life owner
A while ago, one of the last of the original Minnesota Twins passed away. His name was José Valdivielso, who had an unremarkable major league career mostly with the original Senators. While noting his passing, I checked on how many of the Opening Day Minnesota Twins were still living. That total is five, or seven if you count players who played for the team sometime during their inaugural season. The next step down the rabbit hole for me was to see how many Griffith family Senators (the Twins pr
Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! While the Minnesota Twins do not have a baseball game today, they will play one against the Boston Red Sox tomorrow. Off days stink, but it only means we are one day closer to more baseball. And that's pretty cool.
You know what else is pretty cool? Reminiscing about the greatness of Joe Mauer. He was awesome. You don't win five Silver Sluggers and three Gold Gloves by accident! These
This is a comparison I’ve been wanting to tackle for a long time. In part due to the legendary status of Johan Santana amongst Twins fans. Santana was the greatest pitcher in MLB for a very short time, and a lot of Twins fans look back with a fascination focused on a Twins starter who was a legitimate ace posting up historically impressive ERAs for years in a row. A pitcher who was nationally recognized as peerless. What about Frank Viola, though? While fans recognize the name and revere the Wor
"Long Gone" is a bit of a deep-dive that I saw last year for the first time and liked it. It held up a second time. It has one of the highest ratings of all baseball movies on IMDB.com, 7.7 to Moneyball's 7.6. Now, I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's as good or better than Moneyball, but it's definetly a hidden gem.
This is a made-for-tv movie by HBO that has a very Bull Durham feel to it. William Peterson, who has been in a bunch of CSI stuff, plays the lead, Stud Cantrell. Thi
Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! The Minnesota Twins had a wonderful game this week featuring only prospects. Many of these prospects were acquired through a magical process wildly known as the MLB Draft.
The MLB Draft is only 20 round these days, but it used to have an infinite number of rounds. Teams would keep picking for as long as they wanted, and then drop out once they were happy with who they had. The Minnesot
The article of Harrison Bader in right field foreshadowed for me a line up against left handed pitching that will be entirely right handed. That might make sense if you look at the numbers in any individual pairing. It might make sense if games are simulated in a computer. I don’t think it makes sense in the play of the game.
I recently read some thoughts about line up construction in the San Diego Union Tribune from Padres’ manager Mike Schildt. He was asked about his line up that alternat
Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! Opening Day is almost here. It will be here within the month.
Opening Day will come with an Opening Day lineup! Throughout the brilliant history of the Minnesota Twins, they have started 24 men at first base on Opening Day. It appears the wonderful Ty France will be the 25th such player when the season commences later in March.
But who are these other 24 amazing baseball players w
Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! The Minnesota Twins play a spring training baseball game against the Boston Red Sox today.
How awesome is baseball? Man, it's the coolest. Right? Even the stressful times are cool.
Some of these stressful times come in tightly contested one run games. Under the managerial tenure of Rocco Baldelli, the Twins are 118-111 in these one run games, including a 22-20 record last season.
Right now we have Vazquez & Jeffers as our MLB catching depth. Our MiLB prospects are not MLB-ready and will not contribute to the Twins this season. Jeffers is very good as a weak side tandem, anything more, he has proven that the more he is extended beyond that, the greater his production digresses. Vazquez can handle the greater catching duties & his hitting IMO can resemble his stats at BOS that he had while he was settled in there. Twins hoping that Jeffers & Vazquez keep being
Did you know that when Joe Dimaggio was chasing the consecutive games hit streak record in 1941, someone stole his bat? It was a Saturday double-header in the Bronx and in between games a fan managed get his mits on "Betsy Ann." This was well into the streak, so it was a pretty big deal. Luckily for Joe, his buddy and driver, Jimmy "Peanuts" Ceres, had some small-time mob connections. He spent five days looking for the bat and eventually found the culprit and "negotiated" for its return. True st
Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! Opening Day for Major League Baseball is only a week away.
Granted, the Minnesota Twins will not be playing a week from today. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs will be opening the season in Japan. Even without the mighty Twins, it is still a most exciting time for baseball fans everywhere.
A new season comes with hope! Many of the 30 teams will be awesome! Many of the 30 t
The Twins would be remiss if they didnt inquire on a Yankees trade involving Pablo Lopez. I have mentioned this before in other ramblings.
But with both the Gerrit Cole TJ confirmation and Stanton looking toast, The Twins owe it to themselves to try and go big.
Lopez last year had an up and down year, a bad first 3 months then a good july and August, followed by an average September. I love Lopez, I think we all love Lopez. While it was just 1 year, and it wasn't a HORRIBLE year, it
First let me preface this by saying that I realize that Spring Training results and stats are practically meaningless. But with this in mind here are some raw data from the spring along with a ranking of the 30 organizations.
OPS – Twins 20th with a .739 OBP
OBP – Twins 19th with a .336 OBP
SLG – Twins 18th with a .403 SLG
Batg. Avg. – Twins 20th with .250
HR’s – Twins 12th with 19
2B’s – Twins 24th wit
A team like the Twins needs to always be internally theorizing moves at every level in every situation. Twins cannot simply just buy talent on the open market. They must try and leverage situations when situations arise. Could such a situation have just arrived in New York?
Gerrit Cole has a barking elbow. An elbow that more and more are believing to be potentially season ending. Of course we need to wait and see exactly what the tests reveal. That is a huge blow to a team that has a manda
Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! Regular season baseball starts next week. But this great news comes with a catch. The Minnesota Twins will not be playing regular season baseball next week. Instead, the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers will have an epic clash overseas.
But we need not worry. Our beloved Twins will be playing regular season baseball soon enough. There will be 162 beautiful regular season games, and
Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! The Minnesota Twins played two baseball games today. How cool is that? Baseball is such a wonderful sport, and Twins fans got double the action today.
While these were not regular season baseball games, that time of year is approaching. The beginning of the regular season is marked by Opening Day! It is a wonderful holiday, or at least should be seen as a holiday. Any president who mak
I'll never forget my first pro baseball game. It was May 15th, 1987 and I was there with most of my sixth grade class. I was already a huge Twins fan and Kirby Puckett was far and away my favorite player. At this point, we had no idea what that season had in store for us. We were just excited to be inside the Metrodome watching Señor Smoke take the mound against the Boston Red Sox. Long story short, or at least less long, the game was tied 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Kirby stepped
Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! Regular season baseball is getting closer and closer every day.
The Minnesota Twins played a spring training baseball game against the Atlanta Braves today. The Braves were not able to get revenge from the 1991 World Series, as they failed to defeat the Twins. However, Minnesota failed to win as well. It was a 0-0 tie. The bats were not doing anything for either side.
Speaking of
There's a good chance you're familiar with Jackie Robinson's rise from the Negro Leagues to the Brooklyn Dodgers. You may have watched "42" or "The Jackie Robinson Story," which are both fine movies. But 1996's "Soul of the Game" walks you through the story from a different angle entirely. This underrated baseball film takes a look at Robinson's tale with less of focus on its effects on MLB and the white players around him as much as it casts a lens on his fellow Negro League players who thought
Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! The Minnesota Twins will be back to playing baseball games tomorrow after having today off. It might not be a regular season game, but at least we're getting closer.
And when that regular season does begin, the Twins will embark on yet another quest to win the American League Central. To date, they have won the AL Central nine times. The first occurrence was in 2002, and the most recen
The Saints were down 5-1 in the 7th inning. Culpepper hit a 3-run HR (his 8th HR of the season). In the 9th inning, down one run with 2 outs and 2 strikes, KC singled in the game-tying run.
I am not a follower of Donald Trump. I have participated in several no kings rallies and am disgusted with what he and his followers have done to our country and the world. I would like to know what most Brazilians feel about the United States now and about the folks our citizens have elected to represent us.
