Dobnak's value, What does he need to do to justify this season's 3 million salary?

Twins Video

Dobnak is set to earn 3 million in salary this season.  He has value in that if he is sent to the minors, it's doubtful someone would claim his contract.  He can be optioned for a fresh arm and brought back up again later in the season.  There is value in that.  as a reliever and maybe a spot start here or there, I am guessing he is the bulk reliever for multi-inning assignments.  I wouldn't be surprised if he is pitching well for the Twins that he would get a spot start or two.  So what would a successful season need to be for Dobnak to justify his 3 million salary?  Would pitching in 18-25 games and getting 35-50 innings of a 3.50 ERA do the job?  I have a successful season from Dobnak as:

22 G 1 start  42 IP 40 H  18 R 16 ER 15 BB 33 K's  3.43 ERA 2 W 1 L 0 SV 1 SVO

If Dobnak pitches like this and goes up and down for needed arms, I think the 3 million salary would be well earned and actually a good move for this season for the team.

What do you think He needs to do to justify this season's 3 million salary?

He would have to turn the clock back to 2020.

He has already earned his money.

The MLBPA needs to seek a fix to how the current rules allow teams to DFA pitchers.

The $9+ million DOBNAK contract was always a head scratcher. He was rewarded for being a four inning starter, which isn’t typically the goal for starting pitchers. But, for some reason, the FO thought Dobnak had an upside he never really showed. So it’s not a surprise if Dobnak is up and down over the course of the year, which allows the team to get some payback for the contract. Hopefully Dobnak earns any time he spends in the big leagues, and it’s not just about the fact he is being overpaid.

4 innings starters seems to be pretty TC brand now.  Millions pay for pitch thrown Dobnak is GOLD.

Dobnak was paid to be a multi-inning reliever and the bonus was if he could continue starting when he signed that contract.  Hopefully he gets more opportunities and is able to give us some value and be able to get a deal for next year for somebody and keep going.  maybe a split contract.  but anyways it wouldn't take much for us to recoup over half the value of this contract this year if he gets more opportunities and that would be nice.... or just to be worth the 3 million we are spending on him.

i think the thought process was 4 years at 9 million locks in a pitching spot where he could be a 5th starter with a mid 4 ERA or a multi inning reliever and if he had 1 season of around a 150 innings with a 4 -4.5 ERA and a few season relieving he would have been worth the contract.  and if he had that 150 inning season the year they signed him he may have had a big arbitration number which would make the Twins drop him sooner if he was in the pen and not starting.
