Byron Buxton to Play for Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic

Today it was announced that Twins slugger Byron Buxton will join Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Buxton joins an already stacked Outfield with Corbin Carroll (AZ) Pete Crow-Armstrong (CHC) Aaron Judge (NYY) and Kyle Schwarber (PHI). As of right now there is no confirmed starting roster but if I was Team USA Manager Mark DeRosa, I would put the Outfield together like this - LF Corbin Carroll CF Byron Buxton RF Aaron Judge DH Kyle Schwarber with Pete Crow-Armstrong on the bench. Target Field home run leader popped for PED's

Today former Minnesota Twins player Max Kepler was suspended 80 games for the 2026 season and is ineligible for the 2026 Postseason after being caught positive with Epitrenbolone which according to the USADA is a metabolite of trenbolone, an anabolic steroid. Kepler, now 32-years-old just finished his 1-year deal for $10 million with the Philadelphia Phillies slashing .216/.300/.391 in his worst full season as a Major Leaguer only garnering a 0.1 WAR in 127 games. As mentioned in the title Keple

3 Twins Prospects to be Excited About in 2026

While the Twins had their worst season in almost a decade in 2025, they have a much brighter future than they did back then. With many talented prospects either acquired from trades or home-grown’s emerging as potential play-makers. These 3 prospects intrigue me the most though as a Twins fan. 1. Walker Jenkins To start this out you have to mention Walker Jenkins, the 2023 High School draftee from South Brunswick HS, North Carolina, Jenkins is a very exciting prospect for the Minnesota

What to make of Orlando Arcia and the Eric Wagaman moves.

On Friday the Twins went out and struck a deal with the Miami Marlins trading LHP Kade Bragg for 1B Eric Wagaman. Wagaman who just completed his rookie season at age 28 is a solid backup for the Twins for 2026, Wagaman doesn't hit for power, or average really. But having him on the bench is better than not having a backup. Kade Bragg, the return for Miami was drafted by the Twins in the 17th round of the 2023 Draft out of Angelo State University. Bragg had a very solid season out of the pen for

Letter to Santa

Dear Santa, Here’s my list of some gifts you could give this Christmas. To Joe Pohlad:  Season tickets to the St. Paul Saints, maybe after a stint in the minors he’ll get called back to the big leagues. To Latroy Hawkins:  Arms To Joe Ryan:  A contract extension with a clause (Not you Santa, I mean a part of the contract.) that he won’t be pulled out of games where he has a no hitter going until he goes over 140 pitches. If he is pulled, they won’t put in a reliever who gave

Does Baltimore signing Alonso impact the Twins?

Just a quick question... With Baltimore signing Pete Alonso, could this make a potential trade for Adley Rutschman more of a reality? Rutschman is somewhat redundant to Jeffers, both roughly the same lifetime stats, both roughly the same age, both expected to make roughly the same amount of money, The main differences being Rutschman is a switch hitter though vs Jeffers being a righty and Rutschman is going into Arb2 year and Jeffers Arb 3.  Twins could keep them both fresh by platooni

Rosenthal/Hayes : Twins will not trade Buxton, Ryan or Lopez this offseason

Pretty big news out of The Athletic yesterday.  Quoting inside sources, Rosenthal(with Dan Hayes contributing) reported that the Twins do not plan to trade any of the big 3; instead, they plan on contending in 2026 by relying on the core and adding some pieces.   Naturally, this brought an out pouring of vitriol from Twin fans who have, rightly so, long dismissed anything positive coming from the FO/Pohlads.  And while nothing is cast in concrete, Rosenthal and Hayes are well-respected reporters

Twins reloading not rebuilding!!

Ok I admit it, I couldn't type that with a straight face.  Of course "reload" can be subjective. Sources are now indicating the Twins will not move Ryan, Lopez, or Buxton. Is this a good move? a bad move? Time will tell, but without seeing moves this offseason, and I don't like playing the Monday Morning QB game, my 2 cents.. ok maybe 7 cents.. is. I would say that this organization could use some big bats that could be acquired by moving at least 1 of them.  and if you are going to mo

The Pohlad's Sale/Not Sale Saga

I’ve been reading Twins Daily for some time and finally have signed up as a member as I had a few ideas of topics to write about. For my first blog post I wanted to write about some of the financial aspects of the recent “Selling/Not Selling Saga” and what it might mean for the Twins next few years. It’s been about a year since the Pohlad’s announced that they were going to explore a sale of the Twins. It seemed that something would happen soon. Over the winter we heard that the sale could

New CBA changes

One of the most impactful changes that most likely will be coming as part of any new CBA after the current one expires at the end of the year is not going to be salary caps or salary floors.  But instead, deferred salaries. There will not only be push from inside the game, but also from outside the game.  It's about to get political!!   The Dodgers will single handedly drive change. Sure the Dodgers have the financial capabilities to outbid nearly every other team for nearly any player

New Found Revenue!

No one seems to be talking about this so I thought I would post it here.  The Pohlad's said they paid off the debt from the new investors investing in the team.  How much were the payments on that debt that the Twins are no longer paying.  Let's look at some possibilities.  First the amount of the debt.  I understand the debt to be in the neighborhood of 425 million.   what is the interest on that debt and is it interest only or fully amortizing? let's look at 5%, 8% 10% and 12%.  on i

How does CBA impact Twins offseason?

This sounds liek a kind fo dumb question, as the Twins do not need another excuse to not spend money. But from a somewhat ignorant perspective of how contracts are impacted going into and coming out of new CBAs, I am wondering if the potential/expected work stoppage next year will impact how the Twins handle the offseason. Do teams typically not sign multi year deals with free agents going into the final year of CBAs? or does it really not matter? I am guessing a team like the Twins wo

Why Falvey Should Step Down- Continued

Watching "Moneyball", my take on Billy Beane's best quality as a GM wasn't his knowledge on analytics (that was Paul DePodesta's job); His best talent was initiating, negotiating & closing on trade deals. What really helped him was his ability & courage to think out of the (old school) box, using analytics to come out ahead in trades. IMO, now, the pendulum has swung far to the other side, where analytics drives the sport & "in the box" thinking is analytics. The analytical evaluatio

Why Falvey Should Step Down- Intro

I was a big Flavine fan. They originally brought in some good coaches like Wes Johnson & Tanner Swanson. They pick up some good FAs, like Castro, Cruz, Cron, Schoop, Perez & Pineda. & Odorizzi trade fell into their laps. The perfect storm of the "bomba squad" that organically came about due to the "juiced ball". This all set up the 100+ game season. Falvey was the head mainly because of the Twins' switch to an analytical approach & his association with the CLE pitching pipeline.;

Romanticizing Baseball - For Love of the Game (1999)

Baseball is a game of emotion. Not so much the raw energy and extremes you see in sports like football or even basketball, but a deeper, more constant flow of emotions. Remember the Twins winning it all in 1991? What a high. How about Joe Mauer donning the catcher's gear for part of his last game? We weren't sure what to feel there, but we felt it. For me personally, the day I got cut from college tryouts and realized that my baseball playing days were over was crushing. That's the overarch

Don't Blame the Pohlad's (or Rocco)!

The majority of Twins fans are treating the ownership as the bogeyman for the team’s demise, I’m here to pass the blame to the person who is most deserving of that title. The Twins signed Carlos Correa to a “pillow” contract in March 2022 for $105,300,00 over 3 years which paid him $35,100,000 for 2022. In the 4 years prior to free agency Correa had a 2.9 WAR in 110 games, 3.8 WAR for 75 games, 1.6 WAR for 58 games and 7.3 WAR for 148 games. No question that he had a career year at the perf

The Twins (Kind of) did Something not Bad!

Last night, Rawlings handed out this year’s Gold Gloves. No current Twins took home the hardware, but very recent Twin Ty France won for his work at first base. Congrats to him! Starting the spring with a non-guaranteed contract and finishing with a Gold Glove and a trip to the World Series is a hell of a turnaround!  France’s win means the Twins have made history (in a positive way for once). The Twins become the first team in MLB history to have different first basemen win Gold Gloves in

“Buy” the Team!

I’ll make a proposal that we do indeed start a GoFundMe to “buy” the team.    No, our little group of middle-class folks could never be able to raise the requisite $1.4-$1.7 billion.  And we’d likely be just as miserable and incompetent as the Pohlad heirs.     And yet, we could aim towards $100,000 and beyond to say we are truly tired of this ownership and want to be partners in a new era.    We could designate the money for the Twins Community Fund, accessible once the new

The rebuild I don't want

The moves listed below are not moves I would WANT to do, and I know the returns on some of my moves will never happen. However in a game of "What Would You Do" working with the assumption Ownership is looking to slash payroll, and then you have to look at the best way to rebuild here ae my moves... The No Brainers... I dont like these first 2, but if the name of the game is payroll reduction then the guys at the top have to go, and they should provide quality returns. * I would mo

Do we still not know the new ownerships groups?

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but have the Pohlad's shared the names of the minority owners yet? If not why hasn't that information been shared?  Has MLB not yet approved the sale and they are waiting on that? If MLB has approved the sale, what is the point of NOT sharing new owners? With the hatred and vitriol towards the Pohlads (and rightfully so), wouldn't competent ownership be excited about sharing details of the new investors? Help distract from the stench of

Managerial selection: a broader opportunity

The Twins are in search of a new manager.  Regardless of whom they pick, I'm glad they are interviewing a bunch of people.  Hopefully most of them, in the process of explaining how they'd run things in the dugout and in the clubhouse, will give their frank view of "what's wrong with the Twins at present?"  I wish they had done a similar interviewing process when they elevated Zoll to the (meaningless) GM title on the nameplate on his desk, instead of apparently reflexively hiring from withi

Twins Leadership Diversity

There are many rumors going around about the Twins managerial search right now.  Will they go with a previous Twins coach like Shelton?  Will they go back to the Twin’s Way and look to Punto?  Will they go outside the org and get a fresh view with someone like Vázquez?  With all these options and more, one thing that should be on Falvey’s mind around this is that the Twins are in some fairly poor company regarding diversity in their Manager and General Managers. Here are some comps: Current
